Are carrier's supposed to intercept incoming air attacks? I just tried to do a "Torch" type of attack and got my transports hammered by German bombers with my carriers sitting next to the transports.
Why is a carrier's land spotting and attack range different than a tactical bomber's and vice versa. All single engine tactical bombers had bascially the same characteristics. In some cases the the naval plane used on the carrier is exactly the same plane used in the airforce/air corp. Example Stuka.

Well did they do that in the European theatre? In the few cases I can think of (e.g. Norway) planes from the carrier actually used land bases.Kuz wrote:Why not?
That said you can still use them to protect see vessels, just attack enemy aircraft with your carriers...

Ah my friend when didn't Aircraft Carrier's intercept enemy air force that was flown against them, the fleet or the convoys they protected. A good examples would be "On Sept 8 Winston Churchill told Commons that the great convoy sent to Malta during August was attacked by from 300 to 400 German and Italian shore-based bomber, torpedo planes, and long range fighters. Some of the action undoubtedly took place beyond the range of fighter planes based on Malta. The British are support during this phase of the action came from four accompanying carriers." "aircraft support probably did not exceed between 275 and 300 carrier planes." " In the ensuing engagements 39 of the Axis planes were shot down for certain by carrier-borne aircraft of the fleet." - the Navy Reader edited by William Harrison Fetridge pub 1971
The carrier's main job is to protect the fleet from in coming air attacks. As it stand's now they're not really carrier's but battleships with extended range.

Here is the situation, multiplayer with Fog of War on.
I would attack him except for 1. I didn't see him, 2. His attack range is and by my calculations always will be greater than mine.
So for example. In 1939 a Stuka has an attack range of 8, Land spotting 4, Sea Spotting 6 vs. a U.S. Carrier Attack Range of 3, Land spotting 3. It has a sea spotting of 8 but not applicable in this situation. Properly placed there is no way I can attack the Stuka while the Stuka can attack any of my fleets in range with no intercept from the carrier. There is also no way by my calculations could I tech out of this problem.
