Measuring Rods?

Throughout the rule book and in some of the pictures I see metal measuring rods that look like they are about an inch in length and have a threaded female and male end.

Where can I purchase them?

Good question. The ones I have like that I bought from a trade stand at a show. I can't remember the name of the stand (not a lot of help am I) but if you are a UK show they are at a lot and sell mostly scenery plus pre cut metal bases, coloured tiddley winks, dice and fancy metal rods if that helps.

The precision wargames supplies stuff is good but they are not the threaded ones that were mentioned earlier. They are also very much setup for DBM so come with a 2,3,4,5,6 stick and a 40mm marker not all of which is much use in FoG.

There is a company that make dismantleable measuring sticks in 1" or 40mm increments. I just wish I could remember the name.

Heh, I've just realised that after all my months of lurking in this forum, wondering whether to pick up my baton once more, I still couldn't tell you what the FOG measurement system is.

FoG uses the amazing MU (or movement unit) it is either 25mm or 1" depending on where you live so 25mm in Europe, 1" in the UK and USA etc.

The same MU distance is used for 25mm figures so as to allow for reasonable 25mm games on a 6 foot by 4 foot (1.8m by 1.2m) table. Some people are looking at using a 40mm MU for 25mm when playing on larger tables.

The normal movement distances are 3 MU for heavy foot, 4 MU for medium foot and knights, 5 MU for light foot and cavalry and 7 MU for light horse. A 6MU measure is handy because lots of things kick in at 6MU and the range of foot bow is 6MU.

It does indeed. I was aware of the MU but didn't know the actual measurement it represented (or measurements, as it turns out).

(But yes, not the product the OP was asking after, and pushing thirty five quid for a few lengths of brass is a little steep...)

The Precision sticks are what I use but to get the 7" stick at present you would also end up buying a 2,3,4,4,5,6 stick and that is certainly a 4 stick too much as 4 MU is not as important as 200 paces in DBM and a 2 MU stick while nice to have for measuring restricted zones is not something you will use very often. I suspect that precision will re package their tools in a more FoG friendly way with say 3,4,5,6,6,7 or something like that.

I hope so, but including also a 2 MUs rod (for javelins/firearms shooting range and +2 variable move).

Yup, that's the ones I was thinking of.

I use the ones from 'products for wargamers' and they are great - I ended up with a couple of sets of the aluminium and a brass set - you can make different combinations up depending on what game you are playing - great product!

As there's no picture of these products, I would like to know the diameter of the rods (roughly).

I know that's a personal feeling, but which combination "looks better": only aluminium, only brass, a mix of both?

And last, for a solid section of more than one inch, is there a mark at one inch, two inches, etc.?

The are about 4mm in diameter and the longer sections have marks every inch (or 40mm).

Some people loke the mixed sets so that you can have stripey measuring rods. I just have aluminium ones but I only have the 40mm ones which I use for measuing wheels.
