Major bug encountered

Post by thedudeabidez »

Ok, I sent a proper bug report off via the in-game reporting function, but thought I'd mention it here to see if anyone else has experienced this:

I'm on Dec. 18, playing the Allies, two-player against a human opponent. Twice, I explored moves by some of my infantry to see what the combat chances would like if I attacked into adjacent areas, and after viewing the odds, decided against it and hit Undo. Now in solo mode against A.I., hitting undo means you have not moved, nothing has happened. In the 2-player game, after Undo my unit remains unmoved, where it started, but it had become marked as activated, and I could no longer use it that turn. This happened to me with 2 infantry units before I noticed it and may cost me the game. Pretty major bug IMO.

This has been fixed (it’s mentioned in the FAQ). Sorry you ran into it. But thanks for reporting from the game, which is almost always the best way since it gives us a saved game to inspect.

Hi David,

Are you sure this has been fixed? I ran into the same problem today, 12/21.
(Although it was in the same game I started a few days ago, would that make a difference?)

See the pic below:

I moved the Allied infantry in Marche into La Roche, checked what the odds were, and decided against it. Hit undo for both units. Passed, Axis moved, and on my next turn both infantry units in Marche were Activated and unable to move, despite the Undo.

Sorry I couldn't send a proper bug report this time -- I tried but the double-tap/hold on the dials would not work.

BTW, I don't see anything in the FAQ about this issue... am I missing something?

"Fixed" means for the next update. No way to fix it on your machine without an update!

Now I'm wondering if I somehow replied to the wrong post. Do you have the case number? I'm not sure this one has been fixed (or reproduced).

Tap, tap, hold on the dials won't work if the Undo button is blocked due to a dialog. Report as soon as you can.

I've figured out what the problem is here. If you undo a unit's move, you also have to undo the fact that you selected the area. If you end your turn with commit, and you have not undone an area selection, the units in that area will wind up as Activated even if they have not moved or engaged in combat. Basically this means that if you select a unit and move it into an adjacent area and then change your mind, you have to perform a double-Undo or else it will wind up Activated. This is easy to forget, and I have seen it happen many times now.

Makes sense. Activation is commitable, thus needs to be undoable. But we may be able to improve this.
