40K armageddon, impressions and thoughts so far.

Post by BrianDavion »

So picked up 40k armageddon this week and have played through it once already and am on a second play through. enjoying it immensely, I thought I'd share some thoughts. first of all I've been playing 40k since just towards the end of 5th edition, and been following the novels etc for a bit longer, I'm digging the second war for Armageddon story arc you guys have put together, the arrival of the space marines at the end of act 1 was pretty nice. useally in video games you're the space marine arriving to save the guard, it was novel to be on the other side of that (Now I know what Lt. Mira in Space Marine must have felt like)

I do have some thoughts on what I'd like to see in then future.

1st: a little bit more love for the Ultramarines. Salamanders and Blood angels have a definate presence, in cutscenes etc and each has a unique unit, Ultramarines, by comparison don't feel like they got a whole lot of love. Does something about the lisence stop you guys from putting Marius Calgar on Armageddon but allows you to put the other two chapter masters in? If you guys are needing a unique unit or two for Ultramarines how about a Land Raider Terminus? that's basicly a "titan hunting" land raider with something like 6 lascanons.

2nd: The choice on the mission to apprehend Von Strab felt REALLY REALLY akward as no matter what you choose obviously he goes to his canonical fate. I understand why it had to be done that way, but for people whom are getting their first taste of the war in this game it's gonna be frustrating.

3rd: I know others have mentioned this but right now aircraft don't feel right. they need to be faster, right now they're no faster then armor. at the very least they should move as fast as rhino equipped assault marines. (then they'd have a niche use as escorts for fast moving infantry)

lastly I'm looking forward to seeing new units and new stuff, as a grey Knight player I'm salavating at the idea of playing through the 1st war for Armageddon!

Of course Mira was relieved: who would not be relieved by the presence of a SM Captain with the voice of Mark Strong!? :D

Some comments:

1st: I think the devs have stated that the Smurfs are the standard template, and therefore do not possess any really-special units. Their special ability is lower cost across the board. If I understood that correctly.

2nd: Agreed.

3rd: They need more speed. A lot more speed. Stuff like the Land Speeder should be faster than other ground units - and true fliers should be even faster. And the EVASION trait must be made to work; otherwise fliers need LOTS more armor.

Chaos units are what I miss the most ATM. The other factions would be nice, but 40k w/o Chaos feels kind of hollow.
