CanCon 2015

Post by ravenflight »

Hi All,

Well, CanCon got off to a great start. Everyone arrived on time and was eager to play, so I thank all the players for that.

The Riders and Runners are as follows (in date order):

Me running Japanese 1525 with 12 BG's
Michael Gray running Early Thirty Years War Swedish 1631 with 14 BG's
Ian Poade running Later Thirty Years War - German Catholic 1634 with 15 BG's
Paul Meilak running New Model Army 1646 with 13 BG's
David Barker running Louis XIV 1648 with 13 BG's
Stephen Vassallo running Later Imperial Spanish (Army of Flanders) 1635 with 13 BG's
Craig Waterson running Russians 1650 with 12 BGs
Richard Stubbs running Habsburg Austrian Imperial (East) 1685 with 13 BG's
Andrew Waterson running Jacobite Scots 1689 with 12 BG's
Stephen Black running League of Augsberg Anglo-Dutch 1690 with 14 BG's
Nick Wade running Later German States (Brandenburg-Prussia) 1690 with 11 BG's.

I was very impressed with the high level of effort all of the players went into presenting their armies. As I took the first bye, I conned a gamer I know who has a very good hand with a brush to do a blind walk around and check the armies of the first round players. This resulted in Andrew Waterson getting the prize for 'best presented army' for his very nicely painted Jacobite Scots. I feel that this was a well deserved prize by Andrew, but I am definitely glad that I didn't have to pick the best army... it was a comp where everyone had gone to a great effort for their painting.

Round1:

Michael Gray's win ( 10.6 ) vs Ian Poade loss ( 9.4 )
Paul Meilak win ( 10.7 ) vs David Barker loss ( 9.3 )
Stephen Vassallo win ( 13.8 ) vs Craig Waterson loss ( 6.2 )
Richard Stubbs win ( 25 ) vs Andrew Waterson loss (0) (tragic loss of Munroe on first impact dice dramatically killed the Scots will to fight)
Stephen Black loss ( 5.4 ) vs Nick Wade win ( 19.6 )
Bye - me.

Round 2:

Richard Stubbs loss ( 8.2 ) vs Nick Wade win ( 16.8 )
me win ( 11.8 ) vs Stephen Vassallo loss ( 8.2 )
Paul Meilak loss ( 0.7 ) vs Michael Gray win ( 24.3 )
Ian Poade win ( 24.3 ) vs David Barker ( 0.7 )
Craig Waterson win ( 25 ) vs Stephen Black ( 0 )
Bye - Andrew Waterson

Round 3:

Nick Wade loss ( 6.4 ) vs Michael Gray win ( 18.5 )
Ian Poade loss ( 3.6 ) vs Richard Stubbs win ( 16.4 )
Craig Waterson loss ( 9.7 ) vs me ( 10.3 )
Stephen Vassallo win ( 32.4 )vs Paul Meilak ( 1.6 )
Andrew Waterson ( 5.4 ) vs David Barker ( 16.6 )
Bye - Stephen Black

Round 4:

Michael Gray win (11.0) vs Richard Stubbs loss ( 9.0 )
Stephen Vassallo win ( 22.7 )vs Nick Wade loss ( 2.3 )
Craig Waterson loss ( 8.5 ) vs Ian Poade win ( 11.5 )
me win (25) vs David Barker loss ( 0 )
Andrew Waterson win ( 13.5 ) vs Stephen Black ( 6.5 )
Bye - Paul Meilak

Round 5:

Stephen Vassallo win ( 13.5 ) vs Michael Gray loss ( 6.5 )
me win ( 17.5 ) vs Richard Stubbs loss ( 2.5 )
Craig Waterson draw ( 10.0 ) vs David Barker draw ( 10.0 ) - looks like an interesting game - both lost 8 points, so it wasn't a boring 'nobody do anything draw'.
Ian Poade win ( 15.1 ) vs Stephen Black loss ( 4.9 )
Paul Meilak win ( 18.8 ) vs Andrew Waterson loss ( 6.2 )
Bye - Nick Wade - voluntary bye so he could visit Australian War Memorial, which by his report was worth the visit.

Round 6:

Stephen Vassallo win ( 11.0 ) vs Ian Poade loss ( 9.0 )
Michael Gray loss ( 6.7 ) vs me ( 18.3 ) - apologies for a small incorrect rule adjudication which meant he didn't take a BG that he would almost definitely have taken. This result is changed to include the loss of that BG.
Richard Stubbs win ( 13.9 ) vs Stephen Black loss ( 6.1 )
Nick Wade win ( 20.5 ) vs Paul Meilak loss ( 4.5 )
Craig Waterson win ( 21.7 ) vs Andrew Waterson ( 3.3 )
Bye - David Barker

End results were:

First place - me with the Japanese,
Second Place - Stephen Vassallo with Later Imperial Spanish (Army of Flanders)
Third Place - Nick Wade with Later German States (Brandenburg-Prussia)

<EDIT> This was an error. Craig Waterson got third place with Russians.

Best Presented Army - Andrew Waterson with Jacobites; and,
Careless General Award - Stephen Black by killing 7 points worth of his own generals by putting them in the front rank. (3 points for Great Commander, 2 points for Field Commander, and 1 point for Troop commander. Stephen lost 2 field commanders in one battle making him a hard target to beat).
