For the life of me I cannot figure out how this works: selecting your army and the AI/opponent army... It appears only the pre-created lists (400 points) or any user created custom lists can be selected for the AI?
Also, the HUD in the upper right in the new DAG battle screen "select points" only two options were there 400 and 500 (I had created and saved one 500AP army)
When I went to the button on the left some sort of filter button for points army book, the game froze and I needed to use the task mgr to exit.

DAG games are only working with present DAG army lists (which are made based on books DAG army list templates), as it always was.
If you only have 400 and 500 points DAG army lists, then the points filter will only present these two options.
Starting a new DAG game has the following flow:
1) select a friendly army
2) the default DAG book selection is set on Any Book (ie armies can be picked up from any/all books). IF you want, you can set it on Random Book (and then the game picks up a random book, and allocates random armies from that book to both the friendly and the enemy army lists) or you can pick up a specific book (so both the friendly and the enemy armies can be chose only from that book). Setting the Themed Armies switch on extends the book with its associated themed armies from other books.
3) the default enemy army selection is set on Random Army (ie a random enemy army will be chosen from the book set at point 2). IF you want, you can set it on a specific army (if you want to play against a specific enemy army). Any Book option only makes sense when there's no AI player, meaning the human player should manually pick up any army he wants from the book set at point 2)
If the game froze, then please provide the console_log.txt and the output_log.txt files, and also the reproduction steps.

this is not how it was ... You could select a specific enemy army to fight, the game would then build that enemy army up to the AP points you selected for the battle...

You are right, the old FoG(RB) was only let you play with DAG armies you've already made, but for the AI would actually let you pick up the DAG army template, and build a random DAG army from that template on the spot. This is something I'll have to add at a later date.
Atm, you can make a DAG army on the spot from the New DAG Game menu by pressing the New Army button.
