Poor Advertising?

Post by White_Shadow »

Hi there!

I was so happy when I heard of Warhammer 40K Armageddon.
Not because I like Warhammer. In Fact I bought the tabletop and sold it right away to buy other tabletop games. Its not really my world...
BUT: I like Warhammer 40K Video Games. Actuallly I bought the tabletop because of Rites of War... I played Epic, Chaos Gate, Firewarrior, Space Marine, squad Command and Kill Team with passion.

As Panzer Corps was released one of my first thoughts was after playing it: How great a resurrection of rites of war would be. And, yes, you´ve done it. Well done!

Now... I knew of this game because I visit very ofter the panzercorps website and registered for beta.
But all of my friends which actually are 40 Fan Boyz never even heard anything about it.
I can´t believe it and went to several Games Workshop Stores. Even they stared at me, not believing what I´m saying. A 40 K PC Game and the main customers in the stores have no information about it? Relly?! There is the most money to earn!!!

So... I searched the internet. Saturn (German Tech Gear Shop), Amazon and Gamestop don´t list the game. But... They are the first adress to bring new games to the customers!

Is this only an issue here in Germany? Or in other countries too?

It would be too bad, if no expansions or Titles on other planets in the 40 K Universe could be produced, due to bad selling numbers.... It would be so easy to change this... Please :)

With best regards

Well turnbased war games are a niche genre after all. ;)

Use that link I posted and add XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Yeah, yeah, I know, different budgets altogether. Still a "turnbased niche" game though ;-)

Though XCOM is less of a war game as it concentrates more on the squad level.
Yeah - different budget levels altogether. Especially in terms of graphical fidelity.

We've had various articles in white dwarf and PC games don't get stocked by retail any more so very few places will sell the game in stores so its all online (We don have a retail release coming in Spain though!). We've been on the GW blog, Twitter, we're on their web site, basically everywhere GW are we've been promoted :) You can;t advertise in WD or other GW places. We're working with other developers making GW games to cross promote the game. We've had massive Facebook and Youtube campaigns. There is a huge amount of work going on the promotional side - more than anything we've ever done before. Advertising in regular gaming sites doesn't work very well though so we do some but not much as its a waste of money. We work by word of mouth grass roots marketing so getting people engaged so they tell their friends and so. It sounds like its working exactly as we planned as you've let your friends know and if they like it they'll let their friends know :)

Might be a good idea to make a dedicated Facebook page for the game - if one exists, I wasn't able to find it. Many games have their own pages, might not be a bad idea?

Anyways I hit the "Recommend" button the product page here on the Slitherine site and "Liked" the main company page. Hope it helps, fun game.

We find one per game becomes unwieldy and hard to manage and you don't get any cross pollination between games. You have to get likes for every single game and maintain hundreds of pages. We do everything through our main Slitherine feed.

Cheers

Iain
