Anyways some musings on this game. Having a great time playing, I have resolved my own personal issues that the 40k universe is not really sci fi, but hardcore fantasy
That being said some thoughts: I enjoying the myriad units types and enjoy the interactions but at the same time I feel something is missing, and that is a truly fantasy /sci fi feel. Basically despite all the unique weaponry and units, I feel that I am fighting a near future (22nd century?) mechanized battle. (which isn't really a bad thing) Some ideas/thoughts, whether any are practical, desirable or even possible:
*assault marines: they need something to make them unique when using there massive jump packs to assault, more move points, or even allowing them to move over rivers cliffs just isn't enough...
perhaps a special assault option "with jets" so when they "air assault" they get a large boost in initiative but perhaps a reduction in armour(floating down on jump packs seems would make one a big target if surprise wasn't achieved)? who knows..
*terminators: reading more about the universe, these guys armour allows them to teleport... Hmm, big balance ?'s here, but it would be a nice thing to have them do so, perhaps they can only teleport once every 5 turns, and only into "spotted" hexes? (prevent a nightmare of what to do programming-wise if they teleport into a hex occupied by an enemy unit, unless felt they should just be destroyed haha...)
*drop pods: canisters screeching in from orbit and disgorging powered armoured men into the midst of their surprised enemies seems a staple of sci fi, having a feature where at deployment you can allocate units to be in "drop pods" would be a lot of fun
*psykers: hmm, not quite sure what lore wise they can do, "normal" weapons values isn't too exiting though ... maybe special random attacks that could : suppress a unit, freeze a unit for a turn, mess with a units "minds" for turn, causing them to immedietly fire or assault the closet friendly unit?, panic: afflicted unit automatically flees a random direction, with full movements?
no doubt I could go on but wont:)
*quite a few tank units have massive bulldozer equipment, which only gives a slight boost in defence. If the game allowed entrenching, perhaps such units could aid/create these...
Cheers!
