My take on the game

Post by Slaarth »

Let me say 1st off as a stand alone game i can see this being some fun.

As a 40k game i'm a little disappointed.

I will admit i purchased this game from steam and steam alone was my only information about the product. the marketing on steam i must say is disappointing. I've been in quite a few discussions with my Blood Bowl League groups(approx 290+ members in all 3 groups) and friends and we as a whole thought from the steam info that this was going to be a TT port.

I won't get into this post about how out of whack some units in this game are when you look at the GW tt table game, mainly gretching for an example, they are way over powered in this game compared to any version of TT or pc games of 40k. even the fluff behind them is just wrong.

Now don't get me wrong as a game in it's own rights i can appreciate devs taking a creative license or such, but some thing need to remain universal.

So i would like to say while a large number of players enjoy this game, which is great love to see indie firms making products, there are also a large number of people who have never heard of slitherine before and will only come across this game via steam. So i think out of respect for it's customers and potential repeat customers that it is made clear that is NOT a TT port and it's own version of 40k on these marketing sites.

surely it's only right that consumers have full information when making a purchase.

Now that being said there are some good aspects of the game, like animations, for a turn based hex game these types of things put this game ahead of other hex/turn based games.

The voice overs are good, but still portrait is so old school that it makes a user wonder exactly what year is this game being released, have i gone in a time machine or something?

stay tuned as i give a more detailed account of what good and whats bad in this game.

all in all i can see how the game will appeal to some and they will enjoy it, while others will not like this game at all and those are likely to be those who purchase the game with the concept that is somehow supposed to be a TT port.

thanks for the feedback, as a beta tester here and elsewhere, all feedback is welcome...

i have no idea of the 40k universe tbh, and again don't know what a TT port is either, TT to me is racing, Orc's are from the misty mountains around mount doom etc aka lord of the rings / hobbit...

when a company buys a licence to make a game, from what i know, which is very little but has been mentioned in the past on other games, you can do what you are told or the licence is for only, so is rather narrow and doesn't cover everything so bound to upset fans from one group or another, but this isn't meant to be, that just is.

people like me and some here who have no idea on 40k or warhammer in general have enjoyed it and hope it evolves into something that can be built on, as the developers here never finish off a game in one stint, they keep adding bit and bobs over the many years the game gets supported for, not unknown either for it to be 3 to 5 years plus, so unlike some who push out a game and only patch what's broken, these developers listen to feedback and respond where needed and alter and tweak, as they like us are gamers, not just in for the fast buck.

so the game in the first version will evolve into sometime else of time, maybe it's not to your liking now as it's not fully lore or what ever, but this may change or not o more your liking over time, but what you will see of repeat visits is there involvement in forum and idea and comments going both way, find that anyway else with any other company then go and enjoy there game, most here own not one or 2 releases but most of the catalogue of games for all if not most of the above reasons..

little companies tend to not spend the amount on advertising as the bigger ones as they just don't have the resources to either, but as more information is released over time, more will get a maybe better understanding of what type it is and what it isn't etc...

from what feedback i have seen on 3 forums, for ever 9 who love it and have given praise for it, maybe the odd 1 has said either they wished they hadn't bought it as it wasn't there type of game of answered same as you, but even that small minority will be catered for where and if possible, because smaller companies don't survive without trying tot make as many happy as possible..

Uh. Where in any of the marketing for this game does it claim to be a tabletop port? Caveat emptor; assume nothing.

i too disapointed with the game at present state.
feel like a poor panzer corp mod
i can still play panzer corp for hours and still waiting for red army campaign.
but this one look like a huge step back to me.
will see if further update or scenaries will change this feeling
