Can't connect to Multiplayer or Updates

When I try to connect to multiplayer the 'Connecting to gameserver' dialogue box appears but remains indefinitely with no connection.

I have also noticed that if I use the update facility from the intro screen I end up with a message that 'Update information could no the downloaded. Please contact Slitherine for help.' This appears shortly after the 'Creatong handle,' message.

Background information - running Vista, no problems connecting to the internet, I've tried disabling firewall and anti-virus software but this doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm guessing there must be some configuration issue on my side but could do with a pointer.

Any ideas?

Usually it's related with the firewall. Please check your router firewall...
Are you login to Windows as administrator?

I am definitely logged in as administrator but the router firewall sounds like a possibility. I'll check with the router removed. Are there any particular port/service details for the responses from the multiplayer server, I couldn't spot them in the manual, probably looking in the wrong place.

It sounds more like a software firewall issue as the game uses standard HTTP ports for all its communication. You may have to authorise the game EXEs through your firewall and/or antivirus.
