What is the smallest amount of BG's can give you a good short game?

I ran some training games with 4-5 BGs per side and one TC. Mixed types of troops just to get the player used to the unit capabilities, movement, POAs etc Points were around 300 from memory.

I did 500 pts with 3 generals FC/TC/TC with my son on a 4ft square table. Romans vs Celts.

Worked pretty well to get going
