Hi All
I notice in the info for Eternal Empires there are going to be lists for both; Later Polish and Later Teutonic Knights can anyone tell me what “Later” means when it comes down to dates?
Thanks
JP

Re: Later Teutonic Knights?
Well it doesn't always mean the same thing of course, as it is all relative, but for these armies means 1300 to 1500 AD.johnpaul wrote:Hi All

Since we are on th esubject of Later Polish, how are the list designers going to handle the apparent fact that the Poles usually had cavalry in the second ranks of the knights. Would you allow a second rank of cavalry to support the front rank of knights, or would the BG already be considered having the mix without the support?

Or it could just allow the mix with no special benefit - there are still some minor benifits - especially if the cavalry are bow armed as they can still shoot from the second rank.
Alternatively if they fought in deep formations are they really knights or are they cataphracts - 1/2 Cataphract Lance Swd 1/2 Armoured cavalry Bow Sword is quite effective - it doesn't count the Lance vs knights but the 2nd rank uses the front rank's POA.

IIRC, most of the Polish cav were armed with Spear/Lances or crossbows. In DBM world, the Poles get screwed (Irr Kn and Cav cannot for some reason move together). I wouldn't classify them at Cats, the front ranks were trained, outfitted and charged normally as knights. I also don't think that the second rank should get much of an overhead shooting advantage (in the small knight formations their shooting would be insignifigant anyway)- just interested in the mechanism.
Again, I am not an expert.

You can either field them all as Knights (the strzelcy being assumed to make up the back ranks of each element) or as mixed BGs of 1/2 Knights, 1/2 crossbow armed cavalry. Strzelcy can also be fielded as separate BGs of crossbow Cavalry.vsolfronk wrote:Since we are on th esubject of Later Polish, how are the list designers going to handle the apparent fact that the Poles usually had cavalry in the second ranks of the knights. The late Lance and Volley banners are also covered, but you can wait to see the book for those.
