Just curious, why are sides locked down for solitaire play of the historical scenarios?
In some of them, I'd rather play the other side -- or sometimes try both sides.
Or is there a way to do this and I just haven't figured it out.
Thanks,
John

Re: Choosing Sides in Historical Scenarios
I'd also would very like to see scenarios played from other side even despite that one is stronger. And I'm sure many people here want it - poll could show it well. We're not sportsmen, we love history and want to re-create it
Are there any real chances to see such improvement in near patches? Because I found it rather difficult for me to manually edit existing scenarios and I'm not sure some fan would make it in near future.

Re: Choosing Sides in Historical Scenarios
In most of the historical battles included in the game, one side was significantly advantaged in forces. Historically, sometimes the advantaged side won and sometimes they lost. The game places the player in the position of the disadvantaged side, and then challenges him to repeat the victory (or avoid the defeat) that occurred in the historical battle, against the AI. It seemed unlikely that the game would be interesting and challenging with the AI in control of the disadvantaged side.
That is why some of the SP ECW battles are played from the Parliamentarian side (Adwalton moor, Bristol, Lostwithiel) and some of the SP Italian Wars battles from the anti-French side (Seminara, Fornovo, Ravenna). Admittedly all the SP TYW scenarios are played from the Anti-Imperial side.
Nevertheless, most of the historical scenarios (and all of the random map games) can in fact by played from both sides in MP mode, with adjusted victory conditions for the historical scenarios to partially compensate for the imbalance in forces. (And sometimes with the imbalance reduced somewhat).
For SP random map games you can play as any of the protagonists.
I have little doubt that modders will soon produce more scenarios played from the "other" side - not necessarily the same battles that are in the released game.

Watching your troops getting slaughtered by superior enemy forces isn't very entertaining when you cannot do much except shooting some (mostly ineffective) rounds with your artillery and fire a few musket salvos. IMO the scenario could be a bit more fun with the Royalist side.rbodleyscott wrote:Bristol

Re: Choosing Sides in Historical Scenarios
The game could be interesting if your side is in advantage if you consider it as representation of history rather then football play. Not long ago I replayed Sid Meier's Gettysburg and it was very nice to defend Union positions from Picket's Charge even thou I knew this charge would unlikely succeed.
Some people just like to play particular side, no metter if it's considered to win or to lose - I've red on this forum several of such replies.
And in MP mode you can't play against AI, thet's a problem with it.
