MKWS Southern League1 Day Event - Saturday 13th December

Post by quackstheking »

Hi Everyone

Sorry for the delay, but here are the details of the Milton Keynes Round of the 2014 FOGR Southern League. This will be the 5th and final event of this well supported competition in 2014, so we will see the emergence of the overall placing's in this league as well as the individual event winners! However it does look like Mr Harleys event again!

We will be able to host at least 28 entrants - more if the demand is there. As with all this years events it will be 3 games, pre-set terrain (selected by using the average of all those armies entered).

Cost will be £15 payable on the day - Teas, coffees and biscuits provided included in the cost. There are various supermarkets etc in Stony Stratford but bearing in mind the tight timings, it may be easier for entrants to bring their own food.

Round 5 – Milton Keynes

• Date - Saturday 13th December, starting at 9.00am
• Venue - MKWS, York House Youth Centre, London Road, Stony Stratford MK11 1JQ
• Format - 3 x 2hr 40min games - pre set terrain
• Period - "The World Aflame" - any army, any book whose list would be valid in 1635
• Restrictions
- No more than 50% of Foot Battle Troops can be Superior or Elite
- No more than 50% of Mounted Battle Troops can be Superior or Elite
- 1 Artillery Base is allowed for every 6 bases of Foot Battle Troops
- Dragoons do not count as foot or mounted BG's for the above calculations.

Timings will be as follows:-

* The hall will be open from 8.30 with the first game starting at 9am.
* Round 1 9.00am - 11.40am
* Round 2 12.00am - 2.40pm
* Round 3 3pm - 5.40pm
* Prize giving 5.50pm

Army lists to me by Wednesday 3rd December as I am away at the weekend and would like to get the Runners and Riders published before then. My email address is don.avis@ntlworld.com - any qeries please mail or raise via this forum.

Don

Just to be picky, I assume that the restriction on Horse should read:

- No more than 50% of Mounted Battle Groups can be Superior

Just so I can't turn up with a 100% Superior Cavalry army.

Still leaves the problem of armies that can have large numbers of LH.

How about:

- No more than 50% of Mounted Battle Troop Battle Groups can be Superior

- No more than 50% of LH Battle Groups can be Superior

Is it just my perception or does 1635 end up as the default date picked for TYW?

Because that date is after the nasty Swedes lose their 7 pack Salvo units and roving superior Commanded Shot mobile gun platforms; it's the start date for the French entry into the 30YW and after the Germans can have lots of Superior Pistol/Pistol horse BG's.

This encourages players in a limited open event with any book, to bring armies from Clash of Empires, Colonies and Conquest and Cities of Gold! Last year out of 23 entrants we had 10 non TYW armies and they took 4 of the top 6 places!

Yeah, yeah; I know that - but I'm intrigued (a bit sad I know) as why just 1635. There are some tweaks in what is allowed in the (face it core) WoR armies if you look at other dates such as 1638, 1643, or whatever which would give people a chance to fiddle with lists which, lets face it, most of us like to do. Hardly a big deal, just makes me wonder.
