rescaling of some models

Post by jcb989 »

It seems to me that some of the vehicle models are too far out of scale to others in BA2 compared to BA1.
Yes, BA1 had a couple obvious scaling issues itself, but in my mind they've added a couple more into BA2 with a few units:

Marder I, it looks way too huge versus other German units; this vehicle used a repurposed French Lorraine Schlepper chassis which were very narrow and small.

T-34 1941, they look too long in the chassis to me for whatever reason. Photos of them just look better proportioned IMO than the model.

The IS-2 looks too small for a heavy tank model. The KV tanks look good though.

I know things cannot be true to scale in such a game, but I think it would be great if the units within a nationality if you rank-ordered them by size would roughly work out to the actual scale differences in real life, if you get my meaning. Otherwise it throws off some of the valuable realism for me.

So, I don't mean to complain about it but rather posted here in the modder section with hopes someone (like dear Amaris lol) may feel the same and want to do something about it that would become available for scenario designers.

The Panzer II, Panzer III, and 38(t) and later T-34's all look very good scale-wise and it seems to me that with a few tweaks we can get it better.

Hi,
I was wondering if there had been some kind of answer for this? Is there a means of scaling the unit objects, like one can scale the buildings?

There isn't a way to do it in the engine, no. And tweaking the model files isn't likely to be practical.

Cheers

OK, well the format of s4fs is basically:

64 byte header - used contents are
u4 version
u4 material count
u4 frame count (number of objects in the model)
u4 animation frames

then for each material 260 bytes containing the texture names

then for each object in the model there is a 64 byte header, then 256 bytes of object name, THEN there is the main transform matrix (4x3) for the object. This first object transform matrix is what you would need to change to tweak the scaling. It is made up of 12 floats.

Please show your working ;)

Cheers
