Competitors not present at the scheduled start time should make contact with one of the designated organisers to explain their circumstances and advised an expected arrival time. Refer section "Contacting the Organisers"
Late penalties apply to all competitors not present at their tables after the scheduled start time and the "draw" having being released by the organisers. (see section late arrival penalties).
Dice
All dice will be supplied by the organisers. Players are obliged to use these dice unless both agree to use alternate dice supplied by themselves.
Contacting the Organisers
In the event that a player is running late for a match or unable to attend any round, we would require them to make contact with the organisers to advise us of your situation. Organisers can be contacted on the following mobile phone number: +358 50 344 5508
Terrain
Players need to provide their own terrain features. Organisers will provide scenery for the terrain features, such as trees, buildings, rocks, brushes, dunes etc. Organisers will also provide roads, but not rivers and waterways. Players can also use their own scenery on the terrain features. The umpire reserves the right to reject the use of any terrain pieces by any player, that is deemed inappropriate by design, quality or layout (eg. dodgy terrain; star shaped hill, triangular gullies, etc.)
Scoring and Recording Bounds
The designated scoring system will be the FoG 25-0 tournament scoring system. Score sheets to be provided by organisers. Players are fully responsible for recording scores and are not subject to alteration once handed in to umpire/s or organisers.
Scoresheets are also available on the field of glory website http://www.fieldofglory.com
Match Duration
Matches will run for a nominal duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes, plus 0-15 minutes overtime as determined randomly by the umpire, at which point "time" will be announced.
Late Arrival Penalties
Players must be present and ready to start the match at the appointed time after the draw has been released. Where a player has a reasonable excuse for arriving late the match start can be delayed by up to 15 minutes. After this time the affected player will be awarded a bye and full points for the match.
End Of Match Procedure
When the umpire calls "time" to signal the nominal end of the round (see Match Duration) play will continue until the end of the side with initiative whose turn it is (but not including a final interbound phase).
Victory points for each player are then calculated, recorded on the score sheet, signed by both players and returned to the umpire or championship administrators. They are not subject to alteration after this point.
Overtime Match Termination
The umpire reserves the right to conclude matches prematurely, after "time" has been called, if the progress of the match poses a disruption to administration of the championship.
Organising the draw
The draw is based on the Swiss System with the basic principles being:
• Two players may play each other only once,
• Players are paired with others of the same (or nearest) progressive score,
• Final ranking order is determined by the aggregate of points won.
Pairing Procedure
First round draw is done randomly with following exceptions:
• Where possible players with same nationality will not play against each other
• Players shall not be paired against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity
• Players seeded to the top 10% will not play against each other
• Where possible International competitors will not be allocated a bye
Second round pairing has following exceptions:
• Where possible players with same nationality will not play against each other
• Players shall not be paired against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity
• Where possible International competitors will not be allocated a bye
• Third, Fourth and Fifth rounds have no exceptions except that Players shall not be paired against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity
Sixth round pairing has following exceptions:
• Where possible players with same nationality will not play against each other
• Where possible Juniors and female players outside of top 25% will be paired with their own sub-category.
• Players shall not be paired against any relatives in the first degree of consanguinity
Byes
Should the total number of players be (or become) odd during the tournament, a "bye" may need to be issued to a player prior to any pairing. No player is to receive more than one bye per tournament.
Players who are absent without reasonable cause will forfeit the round/s (scoring nil), opponents will receive the equivalent to a 'bye' assuming they cannot be re-integrated into the pairing process.
The player receiving the 'bye' will be chosen randomly from those eligible on the lowest score.
Organisers have the option to use a reserve player (if available) to eliminate the "bye". The reserve player, if used, would be paired against an opponent chosen randomly from those eligible on the lowest score
Final Championship Placings
On conclusion of the last round, players are sorted by their total accumulated score, with provision for adjustment to players receiving a bye (refer Scoring Byes). If two or more players are tied on equal scores, refer to section Countbacks for determining the final placings.
Junior Championship Placings
Players aged 18 years or younger as of 12th June, who qualify for a championship placing as the Junior IWF Championship based on their total accumulated score with the same provisions for byes as per section Scoring Byes, and countbacks, refer section Countback Method.
Female Championship Placings
Female players qualify for a championship placing as the Female IWF Championship based on their total accumulated score with the same provisions for byes as per section Scoring Byes, and countbacks, refer section Countback Method.
Scoring byes
Players awarded a "bye" are given full points under the designated scoring system.
Countback Method
This countback method is for separating competitors on tied scores for the top three placing in all catergories (overall, female, junior.). The countback is done automatically by the FoG tournament software and is based on fractional point rather than the rounded points that are diplayed with the draw.
Special Conditions
All figures must be appropriately based and painted and must accurately depict the troops they represent.
Players must fully define their troops as they are placed on table.
Any incorrect army list discovered after a game has commenced (after set up dice have been rolled) must be corrected prior to the next match.
If a player resigns from a game at any stage after the first set up dice have been rolled their opponents will be awarded full points.
The default measurement system for the competition will be metric, players may agree to use imperial if they prefer.
Umpires
The Umpires will adjudicate in accordance with the written letter of the rules, unless otherwise specified by the FAQ published on the Field of Glory website http://www.fieldofglory.com
Umpires otherwise have final adjudication on any issues with ambiguities or requiring interpretation.
Players are to accept the Umpire's decision with good grace remembering, any player haranguing, being aggressive or abusive to the Umpire may be subject to having their game forfeited or, in severe cases, be ejected from the competition.
Players participate at the discretion of the organisers. Players who exhibit offensive, disruptive or inappropriate behaviour will be removed from the competition at the discretion of the organisers.

That's good news for FOGgers wishing to play at Helsinki!
However, I think sorting out the seeds might be tricky:-) I'd have thought an entirely random draw with the other usual caveats more appropriate for what is likely to be the first international comp for FOG? After all there has been little time for cross-border comparisons as yet.

probably a silly question, but why if the rules use bases instead of individual figures, do tournaments limit the armies to a particular figure scale when 6mm and 10mm are mounted on the same size bases as 15mm. i realize that it may look a little odd facing 6mm with 15mm, but one person is using a 25mm figure for a general with his 15mm figures and the figures can be readily identified as to type.

Because '15mm' and '25mm' use different base sizes (i.e. 40mm frontage for 15's scale and 60mm for 25's) the competition organisers need to make it clear what "scale" is being used.willb wrote:probably a silly question, but why if the rules use bases instead of individual figures, do tournaments limit the armies to a particular figure scale when 6mm and 10mm are mounted on the same size bases as 15mm
I suppose you could use 6mm or 10mm figures for 15's, and I think it's been done on occassion. The convention is to use figures of similar proportion to the scale set, because it looks better.
If you ONLY have 6mm or 10mm figures then people probably wouldn't object, although it would be sensible to check with the competition organisers. In particular, where members of the public are also walking through the gaming area, organisers will want the games to look interesting.
i have also seen photos somewhere from a tournament where there were 6mm and 15mm armies.jdm wrote:For Several years a player has used 10mm figures on 15mm bases at the previous (DBM) world championships.
No one objected
JDM
though i was not advocating mixing 25mm and 15mm due to different base sizes, i have come across one group that was advocating mounting 25mm figures on foundry 40mm bases.
