wow these bactrians!

Post by glorious_hoplite »

these bactrians really seem to be invincible. i am currently playing as the persians on hard level, and the only other nation left is the romans ( i am just a few steps away from a complete world conquest :D ) the bactrians easily murder even the triarii  and theurophoroi i am wondering who can stop them? heavy cavalry maybe? or archers? if they are so powerful then isnt their unit description wrong? which describe them as weak against all but skirmishers? but i must admit they were 16 squads full and 6 exp and 6 sqd size, but the enemy was am much greater, if not larger. also after i build them in substancial number, my silver stock started plummeting unexpectedly, much faster than what wouldbe if i take their quoted maintainence cost(250 silver) into account. so are there any downside of recruiting them? (there should be realistically.) is it that sliver plummet?

There are a few possible reasons why your silver stocks are dropping. One of them is if your recently added forces are outside of a city; it costs you more to maintain a unit in the field than in camp. The AI doesn't seem to suffer the same penalty, and stations troops in the open all the time. The other possibility is that there are fewer visiting foreign diplomats contributing to your treasury, now that you've wiped out most of the opposition.

Against Bactrians, you would ideally use Spearmen of some type (Theurophoroi are light infantry, and fare badly against cavalry), although heavy cavalry are another good answer. At 6 experience, almost any type of unit is pretty tough. If you don't have a decent training grounds in your recruiting cities and are throwing inexperienced troops against them, you are wasting a lot of men.

the diplomat problem cant be.. since i have only foreign one diplomat since a loan time, and still have a roman diplomat. does the field armies cost more than what is written in the game? also you said i must pit my bactrians against spearmen, but they have already defeated large armies of triarii!!!
also, now that you have replied, plz reply my some older querries in the 'modding' thread , no one seems to be replying :(
