French Dragoons 1810-1812

Post by Bar853 »

French Army in Spain 1810-12 page 166.
French Dragoons have their unit maximum as 6 and then the Total maximum As 12, should the line separating veteran and drilled carry on through to the unit maximum column?

Post this last month in the Emperors and Eagles site and have not had any response as yet. I think that there is an error in the format that has been used. But to the question. How many Dragoons units can you have? Is it one Veteran of 4 or 6 and one average of 4 to 6?

Thanks

After looking at it I would agree that the maximum of 6 should apply to the veterans. Not an official list writer just another player who in my honest opinion thinks that based on other lists in the books that is what was intended. Hope that helps.

Thanks Deadtorius for your reply. I am just wondering how other players have been interpreting this entry? If you read it from left to right you are able to have french dragoons that are veteran or drilled, you must have 4 bases but it is a maximum of 6 bases, so this only allows you to build one unit of either drilled or veteran, that can be large or small and the total maximum of 12 bases is a mistake.

But if you start reading from right to left and assume that the 12 bases max is correct then you can have 2 units of large or small, one that is veteran and one that is drilled. You could even have 3 small units. If that was the intent of the authors then there would be a line separating it into two rows up until the "total maximum bases" column.

As I play french it would be nice to have 2 or 3 dragoon units as an option. But this "entry/row" has a mistake in it and it would be nice to get it sorted.

Sorry if this sound like I am carry on a bit but I though that I needed to make it a bit clearer.

Thanks

My take on it is this
You can have up to 12 bases of Dragoons max. Up to 6 of those bases max can be Veteran. There is no minimum for veterans so you can make all 12 bases drilled if you wanted. As it stands you have to have a small unit of Dragoons at least, looks like they could be drilled or vet depending on player choice.
