Oleh Dir?
I'm new to this forum, and after reading some posts, I could see that people are mentioning some "Oleg Dir" hero (+3 movement, +3 init). Question is: how do u get him? Is it totally random? do u have to fulfill some quest?

Re: Oleh Dir?
You get him at some stage in GC39 for movign to some hex or something like that. There is another one called Rudel that is way more overpowered but achieved in much the same way.

Re: Oleh Dir?
You get Oleh Dir during the Lodz (GC39) scenario. Originally it is a Gebirgsjäger unit.
If you want to find out more, just search the forum. There are quite a few threads referring to the special heroes.

You get most of the special heroes just when playing the scenarios in the Grand Campaign. Most will just appear on the map in a certain turn. For a few you to fulfill certain requirements. If you don't mind spoilers you can read about all the special heroes here.

Well, I've never actually got him - I played and completed GC39 way before he was added.Jazzer32 wrote:Can u be more specific? That helps a lot!
Re: Oleh Dir?
Why do people keep insisting that Rudel is overpowered or other such stuff? If anything, his in-game unit is underpowered. This is a guy who killed 500 tanks, 800 trucks, 150 artillery pieces, and four warships, among other things. He also survived getting shot down 32 times. There is nothing wrong with depicting him the way he was.BiteNibbleChomp wrote:You get him at some stage in GC39 for movign to some hex or something like that. Re: Oleh Dir?
To me, the high hero stats are justified for the very best units whether historical (Rudel) or not (Oleh Dir). Oleh Dir is a bit powerful at the time he arrives, as he moves faster than most vehicles and has a very helpful initiative advantage at a time when most German units already have a good initiative advantage over most opponents. Some other similar units appear in 42 or 43 East. In the grand scheme of thing he is probably not too over the top, especially once you allow for how easy it is to lose infantry from about 43 onwards.
It's probably not too unhistoric either. Gebirgsjagers were elite units and with someone like Rommel as the commanding officer the extra move could be a combination of fitness, good route finding and determination, and high initiative fits well with a very fast moving elite unit under an exceptional commander. Rudel is probably a similar case of an unusually effective pilot who had skill, bravery and luck on his side.
I think the argument is usually over whether these exceptional heroes change the game balance too much at the time they appear. Personally I am quite happy with them (though they could perhaps arrive a little later and still be good), and there's an argument for one or two further units in late in 43 East and in 44 East. If you decide against them you can disband the unit for prestige in the deployment stage of the next scenario or (something I haven't tried and which needs care - check forum for advice) go into the scenario editor and tone them down to a level you are happy with. Personally I am having a run of spotting heroes so all combat heroes are most welcome.

+9 Attack and +9 Defense, sound pretty overpowered to me considering a Tiger is 24.proline wrote:Why do people keep insisting that Rudel is overpowered or other such stuff? However he is certainly a cool unit, and deserves to be remembered considering possibly half his tank kills were from 1944-45, when the Luftwaffe was virtually destroyed!
Can I have some of those spotting heroes to join my sturmtruppen division?captainjack wrote: Personally I am having a run of spotting heroes so all combat heroes are most welcome.
