Just wondering something that has not come up yet, if a shock cavalry unit gets hit in the flank or rear by light cavalry, does it still get the extra die?
I realize the POA's are an auto ++ for the light cav and -- for the shock but was wondering about the dice additions/losses. Do they still apply?

Re: shock getting flank charged
There are no listed exceptions so I would say that the +1/-1 dice still applies.
Of course, the shock cavalry will have dropped a cohesion level from the flank contact as well as suffering the POA disadvantage.

Re: shock getting flank charged
Just wondering as I assumed the +1/-1 was due to shock momentum which I can't imagine they have if caught in flank or rear.

Re: shock getting flank charged
Remember that some of the shock squadrons would be turning to countercharge, just that this is not modelled in our mechanisms.
During the combat round:
LC gets 6 dice, -1 for facing shock = 5 dice. Hits on 4, +1POA for charging flank, -1POA for facing shock = 4 to hit
Shock HC gets 6 dice, +1 for shock vs LC, losing 1 per 3 (dropped a level due to flank charge) = 5 dice. Hits on 4 +1 POA for heavier cav, -1POA for hit in flank = 4 to hit.
LC should still win as it only needs 2 hits from 5 to drop shock to wavering.

Still could be risky if the shock player is lucky that day, but I guess for light cavalry its the best chance they can get. Even on a flank rear charge, rear or flank support for the attacker would be good idea.

Re: shock getting flank charged
Where does it say you only use the flank poa??
Re: shock getting flank charged
The light cavalry start with 6 dice - going down to 5 for facing shock cavalry
The shock cavalry start with 6 dice going up to 7 for facing light cavalry, then back down to 5 for being disordered.
The light cavalry have a +POA for charging the flank so hit on 3's
The shock cavalry have a +POA for being heavier and a -POA for being hit in the flank.
So overall the light cavalry have 5 dice hitting on 3's
The shock cavalry have 5 dice hitting on 4's
Given that the shock cavalry will be already disordered from the charge, the light cavalry have a good chance of breaking them and should at least waver them.

Re: shock getting flank charged
As long as the LC get 2 hits from their 5 dice, they cannot lose (will win any draw as attacker). Even if the LC miss altogether, the HC will still need 4 out of 5 hits, otherwise the HC go backwards.terrys wrote:Given that the shock cavalry will be already disordered from the charge, the light cavalry have a good chance of breaking them and should at least waver them.
Seems about right to me.
