Legal formation?

Post by Vespasian28 »

Just wanted to check if it was possible to deploy a Spanish Colunela as a file of two shot, a file of two pike and a file of pike/swordsmen. The pike are in a rectangle, albeit a shallow one, so cannot see why not unless I am missing something. Not much use in the open but I was thinking if defending FF where a deep pike block is no use.

I don't see anything in the rules that would outlaw this formation, though I don't have my army lists with me so can't say if the lists specify what formations are permitted to colunelas.

I suspect a two deep formation would also be very desirable if facing artillery or needing to cover a wider frontage.

Seems to me that anything making this formation remotely viable should be welcomed.

Thanks for the input Dave.

As far as I can see colunelas have to follow the normal rules for P&S/mixed formations, there are no further restrictions in the lists.
Not convinced this makes colunelas in any way more viable other than defending FF; against the Swiss which is what I intend trying this weekend.
