How many models?

Post by Galadrin »

Hey, I am considering picking up two armies (early Roman and Gallic). Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how many 28mm miniatures each of these armies would require at 800 points? I'm not asking for stands, just actual figurines (for reasons of expense, painting time etc)... thanks!

Also, 28mm infantry are generally 3 to a base in FoG, right? The standard frontage being 60mm, this seems kind of tight.

28mm heavy foot can be 3 or 4 to a base, I personally think that 4 looks better.

I would think that an 800 point Roman force will be about 150 figures but unless you are going to play on a big table you really only need about 650 points for a good game on a 6 by 4 table. Gallic will probably be in the region of 200 figures for an 800 point army but less for a 650.

You should check out Wargames Factory if you haven't already as their first two figure lines will be early Roman and Celtic.

4 certainly gives you that heavy infantry in close formation look, however, can be a bit tight for some figures. I think that for "side on" poses such as a Roman throwing a pilum you'll be able to get 4 on if you want, but for a more "front on" pose, which some swordsmen may be, you may be better off with 3.

To be perfectly honest I think the only way to be sure is to set some figures up on a base and see which look you prefer.

Wow. you are custom made for this company!!!

i would like to know how mant figures we could expect in an army, but i'll have to guess alot...each box is 48 mini's, and i expect to buy 2-8 boxes of Medeival Euro Horse and Foot
(Storm of Arrows and Far Easterns will be my HUGE buying points)

that would be 96 to 424 miniatures for me.

...in one army!
