Suggestion for Morale Recovery

Post by Navaronegun »

Gents,

A suggestion for BA2 (though it may be a tad late) is to have Morale Recovery rates per turn in Squads.csv as a Column (perhaps variable by a random + or - 10%) as opposed to in the Startup.bsf. This would reflect that some units, based on training (not just promotion "in game"), are better able to recover from Suppression and Demoralization in Combat. There could also be an "Elite Rate" Column in Squads.CSV as well. For example Guards, Fallschirmjagers or Gebirgsjagers higher, Regular Infantry as a moderate number, as opposed to Osttroopen, Conscripts, Home Guard lower. It would also allow for Green Formations (like the 1st US Armored Divisional elements) to have a lower rate in Tunisia as opposed to the 10th Panzer Division (Eastern Front veterans).

Just another nuanced effect.

Morale recovery rates are relative to a unit's max morale, which is determined both by the base morale for its squad type and the unit's rank so, for example, a German Paratrooper (base morale 125) should already have higher morale recovery rate than an Osttruppen unit (base morale 80) of the same rank, with a standard infantry unit somewhere in between.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks. True, but the ability no nuance it based on different parent orgs as well, would be nice. There is certainly a difference say between a US Infantry unit from the Big Red one in 1944 and a new US Division just shipped over from England. In a Campaign, the ability to differentiate between the two would be a bit more nuanced than the big hammer approach of increasing morale. In Race To Tunis, for example, I have two US Infantry types, one for 1st US Armored units, and one for the other, "green" ones. Because the quality difference and morale really showed. But it can lead to inflated morales overall, especially in a campaign with FJs, GebigJs, Bersaglieri, Kradschutzen, etc. So a nuanced way to merely adjust recovery can increase "staying power" without just upping morale. So you could have 2 units with the same morale, but the one guy is less fragile in the course of a battle. Just a thought.
