Italian Condotta Variations?

Post by pcelella »

I'm planning on a 15mm Italian Condotta army, and will finalize a list once I get my copy of Storm of Arrows (pre-ordered from Amazon.com, btw). In various other rules that I have played, there are options for the different Italian city-states. For instance, I usually have played (and would like to continue playing), a Venetian army, either from inside or outside Italy. Pike, knights, and stradiots. Will Storm of Arrows differentiate the different Italian Condotta armies of the period, and if so, is there any guidance I can get for planning and painting up my force in advance? I would love to have one ready to play for the Cold Wars tournament in March.

Thanks

I thought I would do a quick summary for you but having looked again at the list and remembered the 'fun' I had trying to confirm that the minima and maxima were OK for all the different variations of this list are OK I decided that the best answer to this query is:

There are lots of options for different states, Venitians can have among many options either some (in Italy) or lots (outside Italy) of stradiots who are either light horse or cavalry , and some Turk light horse.

All Condotta armies can have knights and pike

Stradiots as light horse will be in BG's of 4 or 6
Turks one BG of 4-6
Knights in BG's of 4 or 6 and you can have lots
Pike you can have a maximum of 12.

Thanks, that's helpful for sure.

Another question about the pike though - a maximum of 12, means 12 stands, correct?

I assume that there will be a variety of light troops also. I would guess crossbowmen, handgunners, and bowmen.

How about crossbowmen - will they be LF? Or MF? If MF, would some be equipped with pavises? Is there an option to have crossbows in combined units? And finally, any halberdiers or billmen?

Sounds like that will be a great list to ruminate over with tons of different options.

Yes, 12 stands

As to other stuff you are pretty much spot on.

The Crossbow will be allowed to come in a lot of different flavours, LF, MF or half MF crossbow and half HF spearmen.

You will have a lot of options to play with. Condotta is one of the longest lists in the Storm of Arrows book.

Actually I think it is the longest list in any of the books, by a fair margin.
