Star and Checkmark Rating at end of game

Hi,

I've been playing BA for a while, but haven't discovered exactly what the star and checkmark rating at the end of a game means. Can anyone explain how it grades your efforts?

The stars and checks are for specific achievements. You can investigate them on the force selection screen, and most missions display their progress.
