Effects of Units Ranking up Chevrons?

What are the effects of leveling up chevrons?

I assume scout action ability and hit chance in shooting/bombardment as well as effectiveness in assaults must be increased.
What else
Alertness for opportunity fire?
More efficient use of ammunition? (in what situations do units run low/out of ammo?)
Reduced chance of being hit by fire (a typical benefit of battlefield experience)?
Movement benefits? Such as Bogged, MP costs to Hunt, etc.?
Base Morale?
Resilience to morale shocks?

Having the Drill Sgt ability to promote units (reflecting I assume mix of assigning a better officer and upgrading unit resources and maybe adding specialists), it would be essential to know the effects to make the choice intelligently.

The wiki (which the forum software decided I'm not allowed to link to, apparently, but you can go to viewtopic.php?f=87&t=33094, go through the link there, and look up 'Promotion and Elite Abilities') has some sparse information on what applies in the original Battle Academy. Units definitely still get extra base morale for promotions in BA2 too. I'm guessing which 'elite bonuses' an unit receives depends on the unit's type (e.g. riflemen = 'sniper', assault infantry = 'elite assault', scouts = 'elite recon', etc)?

The information from the BA1 wiki is still correct, there is an increase in base morale when ranking up and most units also receive one or more bonuses based on their squad type when they reach elite status. A new benefit is that veteran and elite units also receive a small bonus to their chance of doing light damage when attacking heavily armoured tanks.

Possible elite bonuses:
- Extra shot
- Extra action points
- Elite Assault (assault costs less action points)
- Overrun ability (available at veteran rank)
- Elite hunter (always receive benefits of Hunt)
- Aimed Shot ability
- Increase sight range
- Sniper ability
