Land Transports problem
Hello,
I have a problem with my land transports, who can help?
Germany: By guns and infantry stands under "useble transports" LAND. This units can use the Opel/251/250 transports in the game. Opel/251/250 are seen as "LAND"
There is one exeption for the 88mm gun, this gun is not using LAND by "useble transports" but Heavypull. By the 88mm is not the Opel/251/250 showing up but the Sdkfz-7. This shout be the key to give every unit his own transports. Make more transports. Give them names in the "Transport category" colom (like heavypull) delete LAND by "useble transports" and put the name of the new transport unit in place.............
This works, but after putting in more units in this way the game is messing up. Strange things are happening like the Opel/251/250 are showing up again. Who knows how to fix this?
Greetings

Re: Land Transports problem
I am not absolutely sure about this, but there might be a maximum number of custom transports that you can add. Earlier I read somewhere (do not ask where) that the max number of (land?) transports in the game can be 32 (which makes up two bytes) and it is unfortunately hard coded. I had a similar problem after adding several new transports to the Battlefield: Europe mod, so I had to remove the last ones to make the available transports show up normally again. If so, I suggest removing some of the latest ones to you as well and see what happens.

Thanks for the info, I going to try it out now.
Re: Land Transports problem
I blocked a number of transports, but still have problems (for example Tanks get trucktransport in the purchase screen)
Re: Land Transports problem
Difficult to know what’s wrong without checking out your mod myself. Your e-file alone could maybe give me a clue if you made a mistake or if there is a possible bug or limit of the game.
I don’t use many different transports for each nation and unit types, but the twelve at maximum for Germany seem to work fine so far if I manipulate the availability dates. I’m also using plenty new transport categories which work without any problem so far either.

Re: Land Transports problem
I started a new mod 4 times now. It goes well for a while and than at ones the game is messed up. I made the following changes: I blocked all SS Infantry BONUS units. So only BONUS panzer units are given bij the game. I made the SS Infantry NO BONUS units who you can purchase now (Also SS Pioniere & SS Kavallerie). You now can also purchase SS support units like SS Artillerie. I removerd all normal land units (Opel/251/250) from Wehrmacht and SS Bonus. I removerd all LAND signs from USEBLE TRANSPORTS. Then I made a lot of new transport units with a name in the TRANSPORT CATEGORY and gave the game units a unique transport in the USEBLE TRANSPORTS colom. It worked for a while and was very nice. Than it messed up again. Now I know 12 is the max I started for the fifth time now...............Thanks for the reply, and if any moderator from Slitherine reads this message, please give us more slots for transports in the next update
Re: Land Transports problem
It's trial and error.
I have over 89 transport types in the Total Realism Mod and it works just fine.

Wait, what! I only had about that number of units added in my WWI mod, including aircraft, transports etc.!Razz1 wrote:It's trial and error.

Re: Land Transports problem
Ah no, maybe you misunderstood me: the twelve was my maximum/number what I’ve gathered as transports for Germany. Other nations have much less transports so far in my mod.
For a test, I’ve added over thousand Opel Blitz duplicates, and all seem to work fine without messing up other units.
Then I added to Opel Blitz #1031 over fifty different supported transport categories, like: 1 2 3 … 50 as numbers which also work fine as category. Afterwards, I gave the Wehrmacht Inf only the Usable Transport 50: all seems to works!
As I already wrote, upload your equipment file, preferably the one with all your transports and categories, so someone can take a look at it, for example here temporarily: http://www.senduit.com/
Send me a PM with the link if you don’t want to make it public. I’m going to replace your new custom graphic settings with vanilla ones to make all new units work.

Re: Land Transports problem
Thanks for the reaction Horst.
Here is my equipment file (as a exel file), maybe you can have a look at it. Only Germany is worked on. The game brings us as German transport: Opel Blitz / SdKfz-251 / SdKfz-250 / SdKfz-7.
I want to make it more realistic, like:
Artillery German Prime Movers
==========================
1/2t class SdKfz-2 75mm IG40, 105mm IG40
1t class SdKfz-10 20mm FlaK30, 20mm FlaK38, 37mm PaK36, 50mm PaK38, 75mm leIG18
3t class SdKfz-11 20mm FlaK38v, 37mm FlaK, 75mm PaK40, 105mm leFH18, 150mm sIG33, 150mm NbW, 210mm NbW
5t class SdKfz-6 105mm leFH18, 88mm PaK43, 88mm PaK43/41
8t class SdKfz-7 88mm FlaK, 100mm sK18, 150mm sFH18
12t class SdKfz-8 170mm sK18, 210mm Mörser18, 105mm FlaK39
18t class SdKfz-9 170mm sK18, 210mm Mörser18
First I kicked the SdKfz-250 out of the transports. This Halftrack was only used to transport small recon groups and not big infantry units. I also want to make restrictions bacausse of the limit number of halftracks in reality. You can give AL INFANTRY units armored halftracks in the game, I made a limit to that. I let the SdKfz-250/1 come back as a recon halftrack WITH RECON INFANTRY UNIT (you can switch with the switch button).
Anyway, the Question is simple. This Equipment file works with a max of 12 german transports. How can I maak more (30?) transports for Germany without messing up the game?
A little tip (Look at the file), I make my main data in a Exel file, so I can use colors to make it easier to overview and to work in. Than I wil copy it (with exel) in the equipment.pzeqp file. It losses it colors in that file, but that is no problem.

Re: Land Transports problem
Okay, this file seems to run fine for me. Removing bonus traits from SS units also show the correct SS transports.
I still don’t know what you have done wrong in the past. Best you add back all your other desired transports to check. For a test, I’ve added some variants of Opel Blitz, MB 4500 and SdKfz 251 to your sheet that work fine enough so far. I had to replace some of your new graphic settings of course, so I don't know if something is wrong there.
I suggest you continue with ID 2045 until something breaks your game. Also, instead of names as categories, I suggest to use tonnage capacity numbers like I do. Easy to recognize and will also make every other nation’s transports compatible to each other if you ever like to create captured variants.
I use: 1, 1.5, 3, 5, 8, 12, and 18, basically adopting the capacity of the German SD tractor family. Then you only need to decide which weight of towed guns requires what. I’m lazy and let this be calculated by Excel on different sheets where I’ve gathered all real technical data.
You are right with the SdKfz 250 abuse as armoured infantry carrier. Same is with the Bren/Universal Carrier which is also misused as almighty infantry carrier and artillery tractor. Both were rather used as recce and/or equipment carrier. In my game, both have transport category 1 (to), so they can only tow the lightest guns.
I guess vanilla has the smart excuse that the SdKfz 250 costs twice as much as the 251 because you would need about twice as many 250s compared to 251s to carry the same amount of infantry.
My rule is to allow only light/paratrooper infantry types, my kind of recce infantry, for these light transports for less cost what isn’t hyper-realistic either of course, but I’m fine by that so far.

Re: Land Transports problem
Horst, thanks for your tips and time. I will slowly try to put in more transports and see what will happen..........I will tell you..........Greetings
Re: Land Transports problem
16 transports now work well.
I realize something. If you take away the "land" from transport use en add a name like "MB4500" is there a limit to the number of units under transport use? I realize that I put as much as 5 transports in this lines for one unit in the past, maybe that was to much and messed up te game? Who knows something about this?

Re: Land Transports problem
If you have land, that unit will use any land transport, so not necessary to have unique transport type.
for example the 88mm gun has heavy pull so the only transports that it can use are the ones that have heavypull. It can not use any land transport because it does not have land.

Re: Land Transports problem
I understand, but if I make a line like this:
TR1 TR2 TR3 TR4 TR5 TR6 TR7 TR8 TR9 TR10 sea rail glider
Will it work?

Re: Land Transports problem
I'm using my "1", "1.5", "3", "5", etc. categories for all nations and haven't found any complication so far.
I only know that "land" is the default type if you don't give any specific category to a transport, like it is done for many vanilla transports. If you add anything to the Transport Category column then only this will be valid for the unit, e.g. "heavypull" for the SdKfz 7 that can't transport "land" units like infantry. If you like to transport inf with your SD 7 too then you have to additionally add "land" next to "heavypull".
I doubt there are any limits there, but there is only one way for us to find out alone: adding more and more units...
PS: I've already added 50+ categories at one transport once for a test and could use the last one without problems.
