When a unit is destroyed during a pursuit....

I understand that the ruling has been made that there is no pursuit move after combat if the loser is destroyed - still can't understand why, but I accept this.

What happens if a unit breaks and runs away, but is then caught by the pursuer and destroyed?
Or if the pursuit contacts a unit already broken from some other cause?
Does the pursuit move end at the point of destruction, or does the pursuer continue to move the total rolled on the original pursuit dice?

If a unit is destroyed, an enemy unit in contact with it stays where it is. It's too busy with the surrendering enemy troops.
