Southern League - Central London

Post by madaxeman »

Round, erm, 3 ish? – Central London

Book here

Period - Frilly Sleeves and Revolutions - Duty & Glory armies.

• Date – Sunday 27th July
• Venue – The Escape Sports Bar, 2 Lidlington Place, Regents Park, London NW1 2JU (2 minutes walk from Mornington Crescent tube). If you want to drive, parking is controlled on Sundays in the streets immediately around the pub, but if free a couple of blocks away (in some streets which may be somewhat less secure?) - otherwise there are car parks nearby as well
• Format – 3 x 2.5hr games

All army lists must conform to the following restrictions:
6 bases of proper foote must be fielded for every Medium or Heavy gun model used,
At least 3 units of mounted must be used (or the maximum, whichever is less)
No more than 50% of mounted units fielded can be Superior.

That should make it quite brutal all round huh?

The cost will be £10, and any excess after paying for the venue and prizes will be put behind the bar as a tab. You will be able and expected to "buy at least a couple of drinks during the day and order a curry for lunch" as a condition of entry.
We will aim for a (civilized) 10:00ish start time, so curry lunch at 1pm-ish, so we can all aim to be done by around 730-ish pm. Book online here

We can definitely fit 10 tables in, and I think we can get up to 12, so at least 20 people can enter.

Its 15mm and 800AP, but we might make deployment zones a little deeper for battle troops so everyone gets stuck in quickly.

Lists to me by the 6th July please.

Disappointingly that's the same day as the Northern League in Halifax.

Agreed that it's not ideal, however with 27 FoG:R events now listed on this forum for 2014 sometimes these sorts of clashes are going to become unavoidable - I also had to avoid Devizes, and not get too close to Britcon either.

At least I would hope that number of people who would be affected (ie those able to attend one-day events held in Central London and Halifax) is relatively limited.

Geoff Punshon Later Polish and Lithuanian
Brian Holmes Scots Jacobite

Strong looking RnR - most of the 10 best players in the UK are there, as well as Tim Porter.

I presume that the Geoff Punsheon above is the same as the Geoff Punshon of Central London I have in the rankings? Was Dave Allen's score really 25? If it was I make that he would be 11th.

Thank you to everyone who took part - I think I only had one half-hearted umpire related query to deal with, although the lunchtime curry seemed to have played a big part in keeping everyone quiet !

I will also stake my claim to having taken twice as many points off of Alasdair in our game than his other 2 opponents combined, as well as killing more attrition points of his army than he killed of mine

If only I'd had Jim's indestructible CinC and his accompanying bullet-proof and indefatigable infantry unit (from my game against him in the last round) on my side things could have been so different !

As ever thanks to all the London club for a lovely day

to be fair to Tim was outplaying me (I was struggling with what to do with so many pedestrians in army) but army size told in the end

thanks again

No, Thank you Tim, for another splendid Central London bash and of course our splendid last game tussle, it was looking bleak for a while until your left flank decided to implode and my red unit decided it wasn't moving from the spot it was occupying.

And thanks Ben and Brian also for 2 very nice games.

cheers

Sorry I couldn't make it in the end.
How did the compulsory average horse experiment work out?
Did they prove a liability? Did they just hide? Did people gamble with them? Or did people find some other clever use for them?
