Critical Events

Not sure if this is possible considering you can skip the mission sequence but it would be interesting to consider an occasional "decision point" during a mission when a critical problem occurs. i.e. there is a problem during the mission and the player can decide whether to continue with the mission with a known statistical outcome of success or perform an abort.

I have been thinking about something like this, too. More involvement and interaction can't hurt in this case I think. However, for it to make sense the result would have to be an impact on prestige since you cant logically influence the reliability penalty through such a decision. So to abort would mean lesser prestige loss and for that to be made possible there would have to be a significant prestige loss to begin with. As it is now I think prestige loss on failure is very low and can be pretty much ignored, especially considering the huge prestige hits taken for failing objectives and the way worse reliability hits. If the decision to keep going could cost significant prestige in case of failure it could be a decision worth making. As it is now I would always just keep going... so what if I lose 15 prestige... I am at twice the necessary amount for the next budget anyway most of the time... And like I said it has to be done with prestige because reliability has to be impacted the same on abort and failure since obviously something is equally wrongin both cases.
