Battle Academy on Steam

Post by Lisbon »

I was about to purchase Battle Academy on Steam for £15.40 (reduced from £22.99) however noticed it is priced at £12.99 here at Slitherine? That is a pretty big difference so I was wandering if they are in fact the same versions of the game.

They are! Just the Stream version won't have all the expansion packs at release, while on the site they are all ready! Since each pack costs about 10-15$ USD, buying them all will be a verge large purchase, but worth the enjoy ability!

So wait: the fact that I wasn't able to login to the Multiplayer this morning because I "need the new version," does that mean that I now have to go download BA from Steam? And then I have to install Steam?

Steam: I DESPISE Steam! It loads my system and demands to run constantly! It won't let me play my game unless it is updated!

This is how you're running this? If so, congratulations: you've just lost a BA customer.

No, you just download the update. It's :

"New Mega Pack bundle - get all BA expansions in a single discounted package!
Bug Fix in unit anomations code
Optimized scripts to improve performance."

Just a normal update.

Agree with you on Steam. I stopped using it 3 or 4 years ago.

Just in case there is any confusion - you can always buy our games direct from us, and the Steam version isn't even available yet :)

Also, it is possible to run the Steam client only when playing a Steam title (it's what I do). But our understanding that some people don't like Steam as much as others means we are likely to always give the option to purchase from us just as you have always done.

Cheers

Thanks, Pip. I figured you guys wouldn't tear down your storefront. :D

Steam only is what made me abandon Paradox purchases and abandon HOI.

Ah HOI 3.... I invaded everything I could back in those days! London would be in my hands before 1939 ended

The difference in pricing is related to VAT, so once you account for that the prices should be almost identical. Currently we don't have a way to build VAT in to the price as it depends where you are from which we don't know until later on. We're working on a solution but its not going to happen in the immediate future.

Ok, whew - I thought I was just being cranky there.

But... I do have one more complaint: I always have to flail about on your site to find downloads, and lots of times there aren't active links to where you can get updates. Could you please be a bit more, well, methodical with that sort of stuff?

And to be more precise: "Where the heck is the download link for the update for Mac?" ... To which I answer, "Well, it was a bitch to find it on the Slitherine site, but I found it here: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Battlefie ... -2.6.0.dmg on the Matrix Games site."

When you run the game without the update it will let you know there is an update and direct you to the page with a download link.
