T-70 too powerful!?

Post by pomakli »

During our last MP game, both sides realized that the T-70 was too powerful. It destroyed T-38 - Panzer III - Panzer IV, one by one.

As the player on the German side, it bothered me naturally, but the Soviet player had the same opinion. fyi...

With the current stats, a side hit at range of 4 from a T-70 has a 100% chance of penetrating a Pz 38(t), Panzer III F, or Panzer IV A. It has a 68% chance of penetrating a Panzer III M or Panzer IV G from the side (no chance from the front). Its chance to hit those tanks starts between 42 and 48% at that range in ideal circumstances, so there would have been some element of reasonably good luck and/or good shot selection to actually score consecutive hits.

Do those numbers seem reasonable?

Isn't the T70 pretty much a light tank? They should almost never take out a Panther.

The T-70 stats give it no chance of a frontal penetration against a Panther at any range, but it has similar effectiveness from the flanks as it does against the later Panzer IIIs and IVs.

I have never seen a game where it could do more than just clink off a Panther regardless of the angle or distance. It would be like a Stuart taking one out. If it happened, it sure didn't happen many times.

A t-70 taking a Panzer IV, even from the sides is tough. I think they should be tweaked, but only a little bit (maybe 5%?)

The T-70 has roughly the same gun as the 45 mm AT-gun and should be quite effective against the early (1941-42 and earlier) German tanks but it should no be very useful against later models.

I'll check its stats - a 45mm gun should do almost nothing to late war tanks.

I thought I might see a thread like this but about another tank, the BT7. That tank can take hits and dish out destruction in any scenario involving early-war tanks. It's fast, tough, packs punch and is cheap to purchase.
