Recommendation dlc 41 - Leningrad path

Post by ThorHa »

As a PG veteran I preferred open and big maps in the past. But with the successful city assault maps like Sevastopol, Moscow and Stalingrad I developed a taste for more varied scenarios and "positional" warfare.

Thus in my second playthrough of the grand campaign dlcs I decided to take the Leningrad route for the dlc 41 after Smolensk.

My sincere congratulations to the designers - vastly different from the usual. Having to fight through heavy upfront defenses while crossing rivers at the same time or having to deal with real flank attacks while proceeding mainly in the center (Leningrad) really made a difference to the standard scenarios, while the Kiev route Zhitomir/Zhurivka was quite boring in comparison.

Would you consider Leningrad path harder than Kiev? And would you net more prestige for going Leningrad instead of Kiev?

Although i was seriously considering the Leningrad path just for this SU-122:

Leningrad41

If you manage to destroy Rudanfort at 14,1 and get a parachute regiment to capture it, Rudankorts Ride (SU – 122 ( r ) Anti Tank) and Galja’s Ride (BA – 64 ( r ) Recon) appear on the island to the left

Leningrad41 is bloody hard, but Ostrov and Novgorod are relatively easy. Never played Kiev path, but can tell you than L'grad path is 2 easy followed by 1 hard.

Leningrad is quite easy, while the 2 scenarios before are a different kind than encountered before and interesting because of that.

The Kiev path is pretty much standard - enough open ground to advance with tight packed groups lead by tanks. Only difference is you have to look for counterattacks very early coming from the flanks. Expected and announced they tend to come upfront in the end .

Prestige gain and loss - no noticeable difference per se. But if you are much better with open armour clashes than with careful unit positioning than you are better off with the Kiev path.

@antoniocarpo: Before I forget - the units mentioned for the isle fort are eastereggs. They are marked as auxuliary units and will not show up in your corps.

Someone from the devs was (insert applicable) enough to punish those players a bit that are (insert applicable) enough to land a para for exactly this fort, which serves absolutely no purpose (neither the fort nor its destruction).
