It`s me again. Can you look below for additional ideas? Thank you:
1. Rockets.
- Each should have a Payload to LEO/GEO/TLI/Escape characteristics. For example Atlas-Agena had those for 1000 kg/700 kg/390 kg/261 kg
With this we could reuse already developed rockets to fulfill other missions with either manned crafts or unmanned satellites;
- Is there really a need to split rockets into Manned/Unmanned categories? Why Atlas can`t be used to lift satellites?.
2. Research - now we have 5 categories of research. Manned Rockets/Manned Spacecraft/Unmanned Rockets/Satellites/EVA Suits
Would it be better if scientists had just one or two unique skills from below areas?
- Rocket Engines/propulsion systems;
- Rocket/Space Craft/ Satellite Guidance;
- Rocket Engineer (structure, materials needed to build it, fuel, etc);
- Environmental Systems/Life support Systems;
- Electronics;
- Avionics (cockpit design, crew comfort);
- Scientific Experiments;
- Communications;
The way I see the research would look:
- Atlas Rocket:
Rocket Engines - 190 points needed
Guidance - 140 pn
Engineering - 190 pn
Electronics - 115 pn
Communications - 115 pm
- EVA Suits
Engineering - 60 pn
ES/LSS - 70
Communications - 25
Depending on a Engineer skill this would raise accordingly over time. An Astronaut could be assigned to Space Craft Research as a specialist for Avionics/Crew comfort ("we want a window" stuff).
Another idea is to contract an external company to perform research for us. But This would cost additional money of course, and still would take few seasons to comply. Also we could launch a satellite a season earlier if engineering reached 80%, but this craft would need a heavier rocket because of the higher weight. Same with other systems. Therefore we could expect which step of the mission would fail if we rush things.
3. Pad Leader
Can we Add Guenther Wendt kind of people to Mission Control just for Launch? Ve could give them German Names to honor the Pad Fuhrer!
4. More mission profiles for Gemini/Apollo/ Any Other Space Craft!
Lets think about mission profiles, the Gemini program had to achieve:
- translation maneuvers
- Orbit/plane/orbit inclination/ change maneuvers (Gemini 3)
- Rendezvous; (7/6)
- Docking; (8)
- EVA; (4,9,10,11,12)
- Higher Orbit Insertion; (XI)
- M=1 launch ( to catch and dock with Agena straight after the Launch) - this was to test if a Lunar Lander can catch with CSM on the Lunar orbit; (XI)
- Duration up to 14 days. (V and XII)
Instead of current mission profiles, we could decide mission duration, and above things.
The trick is that first we would have to master Orbital Maneuvers and Rendezvous to perform successful docking/Higher orbit insertion. You get the point
The Mission creator in BARIS would be definitely welcomed warm by the BASPM community.
Thank you.
