Attack! Devizes - 19th/20th July 2014 - A Time of Rebellion

I am proposing the following theme for Attack! in July, but I would welcome (helpful) comments.

900 points Doubles.

Theme: "A Time of Rebellion"

Any army 1642-1660 from any of the army list books, with the following additional restrictions.

i. No heavily armoured mounted troops permitted.
ii. Army must include at least 16 bases of mounted battle troops.
iii. Army must include at least 6 bases of foot battle troops for each base of medium or heavy artillery.

The aim of the date period is to allow Determined Horse a good runout, to stick with traditional 2 pike, 4 shot foot BGs, and to exclude any detached bayonet shenanigans. However, I have not excluded eastern and exotic armies.

Hopefully this will provide an interesting mix of armies, different from previous themes.

If anyone can see any loophole in the above that allows any particular army list a special advantage, please could you point it out.

I would suggest that the 2 BGs of foot battle troops should be at least 6 bases just in case any devious person thinks of using Commanded Shot for the purpose.

No, it just means I was knackered when I thought out the theme last night after getting back from Burton. Congrats on your triumph.

Not so much an objection as an observation:

Those of us who like to take a lot of foot are forced to have a high minimum of horse. Yet the cavalry king is given free rein

How about a minimum of 24 bases of M/HF? That way everyone is forced to waste points on troops they don't want.

As Kevin says, he is given free rein as long as he is willing to do without artillery.

He could do without artillery, or take one bg of four and just twelve bases of foot.

So cavalry armies can pick and choose, but foot armies are weighed down with numerous mounted toffs!

Seems fair to me...

Later Ottoman, Later Russian, Moghul & Early Louis XIV are all available between 1642 and 1660.

Sadly, the new restrictions might make them too "footy."

My doubles rules are simple, if with Paddy must have artillery or he gets upset, if without Paddy no artillery
