Arvidus' Flags and Roundels

Post by Arvidus »

Greetings,

I'm a fan of the Panzer-games and Wargaming overall. What I usually do playing these games, is modding flags and coat of arms to my liking. So far: The Paradox Games and
Panzer General 2.
Why? I'm an heraldician, I expertise and study flags and coat of arms. I haven't got the chance to play Panzer Corps yet, since I'm waiting for its release on Steam. But that still doesn't stop me from expanding my services to here.

So here are my first attempts at modding flags for Panzer Corps:

WARNING! Swastikas present!

Purchase and Capture Points:
Flags 2.png
Flags 2.png (92.68 KiB) Viewed 13463 times
Spheric Flags:
Regular 2.png
Regular 2.png (149.98 KiB) Viewed 13499 times
Also in shape of Air Force insignia, just for fun:
Roundel 2.png

Download Link
https://www.mediafire.com/?9g5mey6znsp2t1r

Notice that there are a lot of flags that ends with "alt", alternative flags and there's a separate folder with air force insignia. The RAR contains spheric flags both with and without shading. The purchase- and capture point flags are available in my custom filter and in the usual vanilla filter.
I'm not really sure if the numerical order on the flags are correct, I based these flags on a mod I downloaded so I could make templates.

If I can improve anything, please let me know.

NIce job with those flags!

Yes, please upload a zip, that would be great!

EDIT: however, I would suggest adding one or more 'swastika free' version for the Germans as well. And Finland would be great, too!

To me, excellent!

With or without shading?
I vote for shading. But, I think it should be tested how it looks in-game, and not on a white background.

Well, since I can't test it myself for the moment. I'll upload the flags as they are now, while I work on a separate version with shading.

Without Shading

The RAR (not ZIP, sorry) has been updated with shaded spheric flags and roundels. See the first post for previews and download link. Test and choose your preference

Got my hands on my friends copy of PC: Wehrmacht. Wow, I can't believe just how easy it is to mod this game. All this GFX, just waiting for my gentle touch... 8D

Anyway, updated the RAR once again. This time with tons of new nations, both historical and hypothetical participants in the war. Also since I have the actual game now, I managed to make a flag filter based on the vanilla styled flags. I will be making vanilla styled versions of all previous and new flags.

I'm not really sure how much I'm contributing so far. Considering I haven't gotten much response for my work. Though, I'm kinda limited in my services right now since I'm just focusing on flags after all. I will however start experimenting on other GFX, such as UI.

But for now, MORE FLAGS!!! :D

I managed to replicate the DMP-styled, detailed hanging flags:
Wavy flags.png
Wavy flags.png (190.61 KiB) Viewed 13433 times
Not sure how people will feel about it, maybe they only work for DMP-mods after all. I love this style nonetheless.

I also managed to replicate the vanilla-styled spheric flags. I noticed that the lighting and shading in that style is rather to make them look like marbles than just shiny spheres, as I did.

I remade all the flags in this style, but I'll wait until you give input. Which do you think looks better?

Any chance you could do wavy flags for my WWI mod?

Just a few guidelines:

 Preferably a German flag that looks somewhat like my one, rather than a Prussian Eagle flag
 Need a "blank" one that would be used as a victory point marker - instead of gold square at bottom left of hex (maybe use a flagpole with a star on top to indicate such - replaces the victory point graphic)
 Put them on my WWI graphics forum!
 Keep the Blue German flag with Iron cross like you have earlier (no swastika)
 I have no need for the extras such as Czechoslovakia - just do the flags from Germany up to Vichy.
 If you have the original graphic [from the game], make them to replace this file, rather than just a file with them all lined up (just saves me and any helpers extra work!)

Don't worry, I am not ordering you around - just that I need it in a certain way (to some extent) for it to work with my mod :D

I'd be delighted! 8D

The vertical tricolor with an Iron Cross in the middle? No problem!

To make a victory hex, I'm sure I don't need to make a blank (neutral) flag. Maybe as a template, but the final product will be just the marker.

Well, I don't know the numerical order or the list for the nations in your mod. In order to make the overlay, it's pretty much necessary. Please provide them if you can, as well as the nations that in the vanilla overlay I should ignore.
BiteNibbleChomp wrote:  If you have the original graphic [from the game], make them to replace this file, rather than just a file with them all lined up (just saves me and any helpers extra work!)
Ofcourse! The picture's you've seen are just for preview purposes. I'll make sure to edit and sort them properly .

It's a pleasure working with you!
Is there anything else I can do for you? Do you need purchase- or spheric flags?

Well, I tested the wavy flags in-game. I noticed a slight, little problem:

ScreenShot_1.png (144.2 KiB) Viewed 13382 times
ScreenShot_2.png
ScreenShot_2.png (121.79 KiB) Viewed 13383 times
A few small bits of the template I used to create these flags are sticking out here and there. These are barely visible however, So the question is: Do edit the flags or the template? Or is it not necessary?

RumpNissen: Congratulations on your fantastic work with the flags and roundels! About your last question, my humble opinion is that it is not noticeable in the game screen (only you see it when you zoom in a lot), so you leave as it is now, it looks terrific! :-)

Numerical order is the same as in the game with a few adjustments:
Republican Spain becomes austria-hungary
Red Tutorial germany becomes the russian empire ruled by the tsars.

Full list:
- Neutral flag (white)
0- Germany
1- Britain
2- USA
3- USSR/Communist Russia
4- France
5- Italy
6- Poland
7- Belgium
8- Netherlands
9- Spain
10- Austro-Hungarian Empire
11- Slovak state (ww2)
12- Luxembourg
13- Hungary (ww2)
14- Romania
15- Bulgaria
16- Yugoslavia (ww2) / Serbia (ww1) - [same flag]
17- Greece
18- Canada
19- New Zealand
20- Australia
21- Blue Germany (Blue flag with Iron cross in middle)
22- Tsarist Russia
23- Norway
24- Sweden
25- Free Poland
26- Free France
27- Switzerland
28- Ottoman Empire
29- South Africa
30- India (ww2)
31- Vichy France (ww2)

The only spheric flags I really need are for the new nations: WWI germany, Austria-Hungary and Tsarist Russia.

Hope this helps!

Well, I was uncertain what you meant by this. Are you planning on using the same overlay for WWII projects? Your 1914-1945 campaign? If you're gonna use this overlay for just WWI, then I might as well include the Serbian flag. So I've included two versions of the overlay, one with the Serbian flag and one with the Yugoslavian flag. A spheric flag for Serbia is also included.
