Effect of rear support

Post by babyshark »

So here's a question:

Suppose I am clever enough to arrange for two my units to be in combat against one enemy unit. Suppose, further, that I am clever enough to have another unit providing rear support to my fighting units. Question: does the enemy unit lose two dice, because each of my units has rear support? Or only one dice? (I assume that each of my units gains a dice.)

The way the rules read on pages 56-57, a unit that has rear support gets +1 dice and its opponent is -1 dice. So, if two units, both supported (and it makes no mention of how both units are supported), are fighting one enemy unit, each friendly gets +1 and the enemy in this case will get -2.

Page 56 says:"Rear Support affects the dice allowance for both sides. A unit with rear support receives 1 additional dice, each of its opponents loses 1 dice."

Sounds like you each get one and the poor blighter on the other end will lose 2. A single unit can provide rear support for up to two friendly units if properly placed.

Would this mean that the reverse is true?

If I have one unit with rear support in combat against two units without, they lose one each - do I get two, one from each?

We have always played that only one dice is added or subtracted from each unit involved, regardless of how many on each side.
I can see an argument for both sides, as it seems to not be 100% clear.

Regardless of how many units are supported the following rule is applied:
Each supported unit gets +1 dice
Each unsupported unit gets -1 dice

The unsupported unit only loses 1 dice regardless of how many supported opponents it is facing.
