Do they do anything besides give you some extra things to do?

We are working on a system which could link achievements to the forums etc, but the ultra-moddable nature of the game means preventing spoofing of the achievements is quite tricky!

Do any of them occasionally give reinforcements? Maybe it was just chance but I seem to remember getting additional troops right after completing one.

I don't think that any achievement has a corresponding bonus in the mission, no.

Well maybe that could be incorporated into BA 2, give you a reason to go out of your way to achieve them.
