Units above DLC West 45 XP Cap 325?

What do people do about their units that are above the DLC West 45 XP Cap of 325. Units that are imported from DLC 44 could have 4 or 5 stars.

Do you:
1) Use elite replacements to keep your unit at four or five stars even though the unit can't gain any more exp?
2) use green replacements to drop your unit below 325 and then start gaining xp up to 325?
or something else?
