If I remember correctly the discussion about the possibility of introducing paratroopers from when CEAW was published there was no definite answer. Now, after a few patches the game balance/technical issues are more or less solved so I thought it might be good to bring the subject up again. Is it possible for paras to be included in some later patch?
I would envision them as follows:
-they should be done at a divisional scale, so should have strength similar to garrison unit.
-their number should be limited to e.g. 2 Germany, 3 Allies.
-they should be able to move and attack like normal infantry but also do a special attack similar to the current plane system, just without coming back after the fight, during this attack they should have a substantial bonus to shock attack.
Paratroopers?

I don´t think paratroopers have a place in CEAW.
They were used in pinpoint attacks to achieve certain goals like capturing briges, destroy gun positions and such. They didn´t posses heavy weaponry and ofter were short of supplies (until they could merge with the main body of the army).
In CEAW combat represents large battle between corps (20,000-40,000 men with artillery support) that are fought along several days. A paratrooper army didn´t fight that kind of battles. Biggest para attack in ww2 was Market Garden and that´s barely a single Corps in CEAW terms.
I don´t think implementing them would be useful. They barely had the combat power to attack another units and couldn´t be capable of defeating a garrisoned unit, not to mention they would be un-supplied.
I´d rather like to see motorised AND armoured infantry corps.

Well, the whole point would be to use them to capture unguarded points, attack garrisons and use the shock attack to prepare ground for normal ground forces. As for the historical battles - Battle of Crete did also fall into acceptable size category (btw Crete could get a port should they be in), D-Day is close. Making them costly and limiting their number should prevent players from abusing them.Ryben wrote:I don´t think paratroopers have a place in CEAW.

Plus the fact that they were put to limited use in history does not mean you have to follow that in the game. Historically speaking Germany did never finish its Air Carrier, still you can build a dozen of them in the game if you want.
Since amphibious assaults are non-existing (just unload the transport and hop! you are done) there´s no need to prepare ground for anything. Just move near the enemy coast and unload your troops. Weee, we had gained a foot in Europe without a single casualty! No Omaha beach, sorry.Borsook wrote: Well, the whole point would be to use them to capture unguarded points, attack garrisons and use the shock attack to prepare ground for normal ground forces. I´ll be glad if i see paratroopers in the game but only if other points (like amphibious assaults) are also implemented.

Yes, this is good point, amphibious assaults would be nice, and should be easy to implement.Ryben wrote:Since amphibious assaults are non-existing (just unload the transport and hop! you are done) there´s no need to prepare ground for anything.
