Info on Dacians

Post by Eques »

Thinking of a Dacian army.

Does anyone have any information on their costume style - bright/dull/stripes/check/plain etc. also hair colour.

What are the ancient sources for them?

Thanks

According to Barker's Armies and Enemies of Rome little is know about colours but Thracians liked checks and stripes. Dacians were of Thracian extraction and hence may have been the same? Their shield patterns are quite complicated.
Feel free to send me a PM.

Some years ago I visited Transylvania and picked up some posters of military figures from the torture museum in Vlad's birthplace. Here's the image of a "Dacian Noble". Who knows whether its accurate or not. To be fair, all the images on that poster have a similar colour palette.
