Some Honest Questions

Post by Henry_Walsh »

I'm looking forward to this game, and I plan to purchase it on iPad as soon as it comes out (I'm not a PC Gamer, and really appreciate all the wargames Slitherine is putting on Mac/iPad). I do have a few questions regarding gameplay and tactics:
-How "combined-arms focused" is this game? Basically, what I mean is, is it a rush to get the best tank (Maus, Konigstiger, etc.) and then you're set? How much of a role do the other branches, especially infantry, play?
-Do you need certain units, especially at later levels, to succeed? I'm much more historically focused, and the idea of fielding a force of all Tigers and Me-262s just seems ridiculous to me. By keeping at least a somewhat historical TO&E, can you still succeed?
-Does the game play differently on replays? Or is it just a rush to get the same couple of awesome units, and then go on a rampage?

Thanks a lot to anyone who answers, and please note that I'm not implying anything about the game. The above questions are just things I've noticed on unit building type games, such as Company of Heroes. Quite honestly, it looks awesome and I've read some really great reviews, I'd just like some more input. Thanks again.

combined arms: more of a must with PzC and the DLC grand campaign. I don't think there is a player out there that is going to get decisive wins in each DLC scenario with just say infantry. you got to get there first and the AI is always looking for that unit in transport or on clear terrain. I know trust me

when you get to Russia, well there is a horde of experiences waiting for the new player in Russia. not enough tanks can be a real problem. not enough infantry at Stalingrad can be a real problem. not enough air support can be a real problem. not enough artillery....that is a real problem at times.

let me not forget the prestige. the almighty fluid of your combined arms. without prestige, you can watch your combined arms turn to a few units on the map quick.

to be honest on the replay ability: PzC is like every other digital game. later one has to try different things to spice up the AI as an opponent. only because you've been on a map several times over.

but....until you get there....there is so much stuff and settings you can try until that time comes and then there is the mods and then there is your own custom made mods with the editor.

so....is it worth the money? I'm having a blast trying different things with the equipment and haven't even touched where I want to go eventually....that editing stuff.

Thanks for asking and yes the game has great re playability. I am not a big fan of the original because Germany invading the US was not possible. That being said the GC's are fantastic with amazing re playability since you make many more decisions on force selection and by 1944 you don't have gobs of prestige to buy a super force of tiger tanks and Me262's. My favorites are GC's 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942-43 West, 1944 West, 1945 West and Afrika Korps.
