Impressions on first play-through

Post by Arcitens »

1) I love that you are producing a Linux version and that (so far) it has run without a hitch on both my Ubuntu 32 and 64-bit systems. Kudos to the devs.

2) I really like that space bar functions as a "next action" button. It's simple and takes a lot of the pain out of micromanaging.

3) I feel like the game could definitely use more plot/flavor. I tend towards more RPG-oriented games, so this might just be my bias. I play all turn-based strategy though, so I would still enjoy Pandora. And I get that this is more or less Civilization-in-space so it's not a plot-heavy game. Still, a little more substance - or perhaps scenarios/challenges/campaigns - would go a long way for players like me.

4) I like the famous people quotes on events for flavor. I loved the selections - y'all have great taste. And you were very clever with some of them - like the MLK quote for guided missiles.

5) I don't think converted aliens should be able to use water transports (or at least the way they do water transport should look a little different)

6) I love the workshop customization for units. Very cool.

7) The game crashes when loading an autosave from within game (not main menu) on Ubuntu 32-bit.

I didn't finish the game yet, but played for a few hours. It was good fun.

I figured that humans were with the captured aliens using the pheropods, training them, and whatnot. Also, the research is naval logistics. I assume this meant that it doesn't discover transports, rather it allows your units to transport over seas using existing transports that are out-and-about. So I saw no problem with human-guided aliens boarding and using such transportation.

Some more thoughts on returning to play more:

1) The mini-map should have an option to show territory size, not just city location (at least last known territory size)

2) There should be a way to pull up a list of all your units. This would be helpful to at-a-glance take stock of what you have. Plus it would be a nice way to keep track of pesky formers that you've automated.

3) I don't know if this overly complicates things, but it could be interesting to make the factions have more than just strength/weakness but also their own priorities: like Terra Novum citizens get more upset at pollution than other factions, Togra University citizens lose morale if their research is not leading or far behind other factions, etc.

4) Would it make sense to have an option that turns population growth off? Just thinking out loud here. I know in most cases growth is desirable, but if you were in a really tight spot with morale because of overcrowding, for instance...

5) More detailed views on goal progress could be a nice feature. For instance, for military victory, showing a (last known) count of the total population of other factions. Maybe even a chart over time, would be helpful and interesting - so you know who your competition is and who makes the best target.

More to come if anything pops up as I'm playing.

Another random game crash on Ubuntu 32-bit. This time just as I was entering the diplomacy screen. I don't think it's tied to the auto-save like I said before because I loaded from another auto-save and it was fine. Appears random at this point.
