First Impressions

Post by j4freeman »

I received a key this morning, and below are my impressions of the game, I recorded them as I thought them, and they are in chronological order. Overall I enjoyed it, and it ran fine on max settings on my computer.

Specs:

Processor: Intel i5-3570k
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
RAM: 16 GB 1600 MHz
Monitor: Acer GD245HQ
Hard Drive: Samsung SSD 830 series 128 GB

Started up the game with no problems, so far everything is quite intuitive.

Took a little while to get the hang of playing, the lack of attack animations is a bit off-putting, and the soundtrack seems a bit weak,
making things feel a bit on the quiet side.

Attack animations started working at around turn 5, unsure if I just didn't notice them, or if there was a bug of some sort. (This wasn't reproducible in other playthroughs, still not clear whether it was me not seeing them, or if it was a bug)

Game doesn't do enough to tell you it's your turn, most people are used to a bit more of a wait in TBS.

Possibly add an option to allow click and drag scrolling on the research menu?

Really doesn't do enough to tell players which tiles are environmental hazards.

I have enjoyed my experience so far, and have not found any issues except from the ones I mentioned earlier. The workshop is really enjoyable,
and the game played well in general for me. In terms of gameplay, the only big thing I would add would be the capability to que research, as later game it does get done quite fast. The game can be a bit quiet about notifications,
I would recommend an increased volume for them.

On a closing note, I noticed that the beta testing credits thread was closed before I got an opportunity to actually play, don't assume everyone has a chance to play it immediately in the future.

Only if it can be disabled. I have seen computer cities with dozens of units. If the orbital bombardment operation still generates a message per unit that will be the most annoying sound.
