There are landsknechts in pluderhosen in Essex Miniature's Mikes Models range; they'll be on the small side compared to more modern ranges. Grumpy Miniatures have released a later landsknecht range with pluderhosen: they're available from Eureka in Australia and are announced as a forth coming attraction on the East Riding site. They look a bit Mike Models-ish but I'm guessing are bigger. In either case the sword hilts might need altering.

Are you sure that the Swiss of the period were dressed similarly to landsknechts? For some reason I have a recollection that they didn't, but can't remember where I may have picked that up from. Also IIRC the landsknechts themselves stopped being so ostentatious during the second half of the C16th.

Yeah, and the winged Hussars probably never wore wings on the battlefield, but who is ever going to field them as such?

Khurasan do a nice range dated 1500 to 1550.

Not sure how different they where after 1550 but I would imagine not too much different.
cheers

Hardly like with like, as we at least know they wore the wings at some time - although I must confess that were I doing a Polish army and thought they weren't worn in battle I probably would field them un-winged just to be different.

Additionally if (and as I said I cannot recall why I think they may not so could be mis-remembering) the Swiss did not wear plunderhosen it makes a nice difference between them and any landsknechts in the army which I'd see as a good thing.

Not down their hosen as, IIRC, the correct spelling is pluderhosen - the "n" creeping in as an English corruption.

But wrong for 1550/1600 - very nice for late C15th and early C16th.

Sorry for the raw links here: I'm not sure how to do it otherwise. This1557 Standesscheiben of Carl von Egeri shows a restrained style of plain hose or slashing at the knees and flamboyantly slashed sleeves [ http://vidimus.org/issues/issue-43/feat ... 10_feat26/ ]. The latter style is evident in his work of 1557 and in this of 1564 that is reminiscent of the Pavia tapestries [ http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... %C5%BC.jpg ]The 1585 paintings of Humbert Mareschet's, Die Bannerträger der Dreizehn alten Orte,
show a variety of styles, from plain hose, through the previous styles, to pluderhosen - though not quite as extreme as are shown on the landsknechts (marked 1) in this print of Moncontour [ http://www.ccis.edu/courses/HIST102mtmc ... LE1569.jpg ]. I can't find an high enough resolution image to make out what the Swiss (A) are wearing. Here they are in a Standesscheibe of 1586 [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Museu ... eibe_5.jpg ]. The persistence of pluderhosen among the Swiss can be seen here in a Wappenscheibe of 1632 [ http://www.wartau.ch/dl.php/de/0coiq-qa ... cheibe.jpg ]

Excellent, pluderhosen it is :D

Heaven knows what I was recalling, but it looks as thought it was wrong - which makes the original posters life much easier at a guess.

Glad somebody mentioned the Grumpy's as I'll be needing some landsknechts soon and wanted something a bit "chunkier" than Essex and suspect that these would fit the bill.

As has been noted on TMP, it's just a pity that there aren't armoured figures - corslet, pauldrons, vambraces and burgonet - in the Grumpy range.

From Daniel Staberg's rather useful collection of pics of the period - http://s277.photobucket.com/user/Dstabe ... t=3&page=1

I recently bought Old Glory 15's Swiss for that period. They are decent, not great, and feature dress more simple than Landsknecht. I have a number of Essex in 15mm and don't think they would work.
