[IDEA] Shortcuts to the programs from the Spaceport

Post by N_Molson »

The idea is pretty straightforward : rather than having to click through a significant number of windows to reach a specific program mission selection / R&D subscreens, objects that symbolize each program (or a group of programs of same category) could appear on the spaceport. Some existing ones could already be used. Like :

- Clicking on the runways could lead directly to the "spaceplanes" windows. You could even park a B-52 there, that would open the "X-15" program window. And later, if you add let's say a Minishuttle project like the Mig-105, also park one on the tarmac, etc... On the next episode it could work the same with Space Shuttle / Buran, HL-20, etc... It will even add some nice scenery to the Spaceport.

- Clicking on the launchpads could do something similar with satellite / rocket programs. It is a bit more complicated though, as definitively burying the idea of combining different rockets / payloads would be IMHO a significant loss of gameplay potential. Still, you could have something like "Programs requiring a light launcher", "... a medium launcher", "... an heavy launcher", etc...

- Manned programs could have specific buildings, like in the original BARIS. That makes sense, because man-rated launchers and spacecraft are usually tightly related. Nowadays, no one would try to put a Soyuz-TMA-M on top of an Atlas V or even a Proton-M. That spacecraft works very well with the evolved R-7, and adapting it to another launcher would almost be a complete redesign. I think it also applies well with the "Road to the Moon" era. There are always exceptions of course, like Mercury / Redstone-Atlas... But still, the idea of one program with some additionnal components to research to meet more complex missions requirements applies well there.

Just a few thoughts, thanks for reading :)
