A players' guide to the FOG Digital League

The Guide

We hope you will take the time to read this very short player’s guide. It will be assumed by the committee that everyone has done so and that all the points contained within it are fully understood. We will be intervening on the basis of these rules, particularly with regards to Rules 3 and 6, if necessary. If you need clarification on anything then please ask a member of the committee. The complete rules of competition are posted on the forum.

We would like to bring your attention to the following . . .

Please visit the forum regularly and log in so that you can access any private messages that have been sent to you by other players or the tournament organisers.

Rule 3
"Players must register two results in each section they have entered within one month of the opening of the tournament or they may be replaced by a player from the reserve list."

Rule 4
““Fog of War” and “Double Moves” settings are mandatory for this league. Either player may initiate a match by posting a challenge in the appropriate thread in the competition forum. When challenging an opponent to a match, please remember to also send a PM (private message) to your opponent as well. This will help to avoid the situation where challenges solely posted on the forum are sometimes missed and games are subsequently delayed.

When setting up your challenges you must tick the password-protected box as well - it is not enough just to write in the password because your match is still not protected if that is all you do . . .



If a match is set-up incorrectly for any reason then it must be re-started as soon as possible.

Players may also agree to restart a match during the first two turns if they feel the map terrain makes it likely that the match will be stalemated.”

Rule 6
“It is expected that all matches will be completed within one month of their starting date.

Please notify the tournament organisers if you are unable to contact an opponent or if they fail to make a move in a match in progress after 7 days have elapsed without explanation.”

Q: How long does the tournament last?
A: 10 weeks

Q: How many matches should I play at the same time?
A: it depends on how many you are comfortable with. We require players to finish two matches in the first month for each of the main historical sections you have entered (i.e. Classical Antiquity, Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages). Players who have entered the themed event should prioritise those matches first and provided they finish all their pool matches on time they will be given exemption from the "two matches in the first month" requirement for the other sections that they may have entered (this is what we did in Season 1 and it worked OK).

Q: How big should my army be?
A: all armies in the FOG Digital League are 400pts and all are subject to the 50/10 rule (no bigger than 50 units and no more than 10x light foot).

Q: How many times do I play against each opponent?
A: in the main historical sections (Classical Antiquity, Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages) you will play each opponent just once giving you 9 matches in total; in the themed event you will play each other twice as every fixture is a paired game.

Q: What happens if I do not complete my scheduled pool matches in the themed event by the set deadline?
A: any unfinished matches will be subject to adjudication and you will be asked to move on to your next opponent

Q: are light horse (LH) units subject to the same restrictions as light foot (LF)?
A: No. You may pick as many of these units as you like.

Two things . . .

1) When issuing a challenge please post it in the appropriate "arrange your matches here" thread and also send a private message (PM) to your opponent.

Posting the challenge in the thread helps the convenors to see who is being active and who is not - the key to a successful tournament is to make sure that everyone starts playing their matches promptly. If we see there are players who have not started after about a week then we can send "polite reminders" to them asking that they start. Sending a PM ensures that your opponent realises there is a challenge waiting for them - sometimes posts are missed in the "arrange your matches here" threads, particularly at the start of a season when the threads are very busy.

2) When you have won a match please post the result as quickly as you can.

Do not wait for three or four days because completed matches do disappear quite suddenly off the server at the moment. If you have lost a match and you see that the result has not been posted up after 24 hours it would be very helpful to the convenors if you would post the result yourself.
