Population Growth Formula

Post by drfreeman »

Hey guys,

I did some searching in game and on this forum, and I could not find a satisfactory understanding of how the population growth mechanic works. What can you do to increase your growth? How does "habitat" factor into this equation? I can see that having negative habitat is bad, but is positive habitat good? Is more better? I figured that the Cloning base operation would increase my growth, but I am getting a zero net increase in growth (stays at +3) after using this operation, which makes me think that I am missing some important mechanic. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you try to read the tooltip when you move the mouse over the growth at the city view ?

Yeah, all that really says (unless you're talking about something else) is that your population will grow by one at some rate. I'm looking for a formula for the way the rate is calculated. Or at least things I can do to increase the rate.

Neither positive nor negative habitat affect the global growth rate.

The only way to increase your global growth rate, which is based on your empire's population (natural growth), is to produce growth or use a cloning center, both of which have not yet been rebalanced for the new growth system.

Individual city growth is additionally modified by migration between your cities, which is influenced by city habitat and morale. So if you want one city to grow in particular, make them happy and give them space and/or stop growth in other citeies.

Cheers,
