RANT - Rommel in Normandy - MP Rescue

Post by petlowe »

<RANT>
My first post & a whine so not likely to make friends here but this MP map sums up all that's wrong with this game and those that like to beat up on others for the sake of a cheap feel-good.

This map is entirely untenable as Allies IF the German forces park up their armour on the beach and there's nothing you can do about it. Where's the B17's and Naval bombardments that the Americans had and more so where is the realism that it took the Germans time to get the armour to the beach rather than having them there sunning themselves for your convenience? Frankly the map is rotten but more so are the people who keep using it for cheap self gratification while playing Axis.

It doesn't help that the iPad lets you glitch / re-roll turns with apparent impunity if you don't like your odds. I am sadly disappointed with what should have had the makings of a sound rpg.
</RANT>

Anyone got some decent realistic balanced maps that work with this game or am I better off elsewhere?
Can someone reassure me that chronic glitchers actually at some point get kicked?

If you mean people who reload a turn to try again in MP, then we track the download counts and react to them as necessary. We have an escalating system but persistent cheaters will be banned from MP entirely. We take cheating in MP very very seriously.

Yes I mean re-loads and I am an Ipad user and given how often other apps crash out the game I can only presume there's a pretty wide tolerance leeway or I would be gone already. I would happily buy a copy for PC IF I could exclude Ipad users from MP.

I Greatly enjoy BA and I take exception to all iPad users being called cheaters. We certainly are not. First of all most of us cannot even get by the initial last players turn review in almost all cases before the app crashes - when it crashes I cannot even play a single player saved game turn or start a new campaign. At times I can play many many MP turns over the course of many days before this crash occurs and yes I use my iPad for many a thing... it is not dedicated to BA. No other software I use crashes like BA on the iPad where BA will only run after a reboot. And BA never ever crashes during single player games. Maybe the whole problem has to do with the review of the last players turn thing. Its sad that I cannot even send messages to my opponents during a MP match as that is known to crash BA as well. And while I'm at it iPad users cannot even be ranked... hopefully BA2 solves all these issues and that someday BA gets that magical fix... I know they are working very hard on this problem.

I do not reboot the iPad everytime before I play BA (only known solution I'm aware of) and never will do so. Yes I get crashes every so often and when that happens I might reboot to continue playing or just wait until another time because there is always other things I can do on the iPad without rebooting it.

It will be a sad day for me and Slitherine if they boot us iPad players from mutiplayer because they cannot fix the iPad problem. Yep I know it... I'm ranting right back.

I really don't think that IPad players are a problem, I play exclusively on my IPad

All I can really say is that we track the various download ratios fairly closely, and the number of people we see cheating is very small.

Other than Slitherine et al hosting server problems - I have had no 'in game' iPad crashes. The only time I did was regard a to modded scenario.(fixed at source).

On my iPad2 I always close down other applications - which is something I do when using a game app or indeed other resource intensive apps.

As for cheating, I would not how! If my opponents cheat, more fool them - I am not a great player, all they have to do is wait :(

On my ipad 3rd gen, I have never experienced a crash with the single exception of one custom scenario.

I'm running an iPad 2nd Gen 16GB and I only get app crashes in User Scenarios. Never in Official scenarios. Might be your iPad causing problems?

I'm playing this scenario for the first time with another BA gamer (we are playing 2 of these games simultaneously) and I feel your pain as the allies. However I play all my games on an iPad2 and have few if any issues with it. I would not presume to cheat and dip out and would happily never again play anyone who I suspected of "foul play."

As to this and other scenarios: yep, some are unbalanced others are very close. Some players have consistently beaten me (they know who they are and I thank them for the lessons and their patience!) others I have overcome occasionally.

Try getting into a tournament the guys there are brilliant .... Check out the forum threads.

Frankly this is a good game and I'll happily accept your challenge to prove it IS just a game - scenario, side and password of your choice. :D

My iPad does sometimes crash during mp games I allways to replicate my moves as accurately as possible as I don't see the point in cheating as you can allways have a rematch I suppose it says something about the calibre of the player really
