Transport effects movement.

Post by Grimwar »

Hello all,

The effect of transports on movement will hamper or allow units, to move or not move as the orgonic transport is also included.
This effect is 2 fold, it will not allow Gebirgsjäger to move on to mountians if the unit has a halftrack, but will allow a towed arty to use its orgonic transport to move on to swamps.

There should be an option to leave transports behind if it prevents entering a terrain type. It could be something like a move icon with a crossed out truck on the hex, indicating that transports would have to be dumped to enter this hex. When clicking, the user gets a dialogue box "Abandon transport? Yes / No".

The transport unit could even remain in the spot it was before, as a new unit without any fighting values. Actually, having transport units as standalone units would solve another problem that I have with transports: It is sometimes far too difficult to equip a unit in scenario with transports. To do so, the unit needs to be moved into a city, which can take several turns for units with a movement of 1, then another turn to upgrade with the new transport. It might even be impossible because the city has the flag of a nation different to that of the unit (not sure if that prevents upgrading?). It would make much more sense to send a transport unit to pick up that AA unit 5 hexes away from the next city, than have the soldiers pull the gun to the city.

You can move the unit into a city and then upgrade it. This time, remove the truck.

Sure, but that might take several turns to accomplish, when in reality, a unit would just have to leave the trucks behind where it stands.

This is only workable provided there is a town close enough to the terrain you want to walk through otherwise your motorized troops are halted. Mountain troops may move quickly through a mountain range but this isn't helpful if you cannot get there in a timely fashion. Equipment and trucks were often left behind if terrain, weather conditions or supply was not favourable and also during enemy counterattacks.

Let's hope one day we can simply press the T-key and receive the confirmation dialog: Disband transport of '11th Infantry'?

Until that day:

Dreams are my reality
The only kind of real fantasy
Illusions are a common thing
I try to live in dreams
It seems as it's meant to be
